There’s something truly magical about this work.
It’s not just about birth - it’s about walking alongside women and families in one of the most powerful, vulnerable, transformative chapters of their lives. 💫

As an independent midwife, I don’t just provide care - I build relationships rooted in trust, respect, and real continuity. That means we get to know each other deeply. You’re never “just another client” to me - you’re part of a shared story.

And when the time comes to say goodbye, it’s always bittersweet. But then there are moments like this…
🎁 Thoughtful gifts inspired by my hair
📝 Thank you cards with words that truly land
💖 Little reminders that we did something special together.

This is why I do what I do.
This is why continuity of care matters.
This is why I love my job.

It’s not goodbye, just see you later 🥹

“NLS - Newborn Life Support. Essential to delivering safe care“

Here’s a taster…

Why Independent Midwives Should Prioritise attending the Newborn Life Support Course

As an independent midwife, you are the primary healthcare professional present at a birth outside of a hospital setting (homebirth). This places you in a unique and vital position to provide immediate, life-saving interventions if a newborn does not take their first breath following their birth. Attending the Resuscitation Council UK’s Newborn Life Support (NLS) course is not just a tick-box exercise; it’s an essential part of safeguarding the babies and families I care for.

Dance Like Nobody’s Watching!

Imagine trying to dance freely with someone staring at you. Your hips want to sway, your arms want to fly, but instead, you hold back. You become self-conscious.
You wonder: Am I doing this right? Do I look strange? What will they think?
Labour can feel much the same.

Labour isn’t a public performance. It’s a primal, instinctive dance between you and your baby. But when you feel watched - by a stranger, a camera, even someone you don’t fully trust - your neocortex is activated.

Adrenaline rises. Oxytocin drops. Labour slows.
That’s not a failure. That’s physiology.

Privacy is not a luxury in birth. It’s essential.

So when you plan your birth space, think dim lights, quiet voices, and people who make you feel deeply safe.

Your body knows the way - just give it room to move.

Your labour. Your rhythm. Your rules.

Dance like nobody’s watching 💃🏻

Today is International Day of the Midwife
And here’s what I want you to know:
Midwifery isn’t just a profession - it’s a calling. A quiet rebellion. A sacred trust.

In a world rushing to medicalise every moment, I stand with those who still believe birth is powerful, physiological, and deeply personal.
I’m here for the women who want to feel seen, heard, and in control.
I’m here for the partners who want to be involved, not sidelined.
I’m here for the births that unfold in their own time.

To my fellow midwives - thank you.
To the families I walk beside - you are why I do this.
To anyone wondering if there’s another way - there is. And I’m right here.

I need your help!

Did I support you during your pregancy, birth or postnatal period?
I'd love to hear from you!

Your story matters.
Sharing your experience helps other families find the support they need - and it means the world to me.

Reviews build trust.
Many expectant parents choose their midwife based on real stories from real people. Yours could make all the difference.

It only takes a minute..... and your kind words can help my small business grow and reach more families looking for holistic, personalised care.

How to leave a review:
1. Search "Midwife Amy" on Google or follow this link https://g.co/kgs/R3ZXGkH
2. Click "write a review"
3. Share a few lines about your experience

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Your support keeps this work alive 🥰

Today I turn 4️⃣0️⃣🎉… and I want to share the story of how I entered the world.

When my mum went into labour, everything seemed fine - until suddenly, it wasn’t.
Her waters broke and shortly after, she was rushed for an emergency Caesarean.

The reason?
Cord prolapse - a rare but very serious complication where the umbilical cord passes through the cervix before the baby is born.

It happens in about 0.1%- 0.6% of births… and when it does, it’s a true emergency that needs swift action.

Thanks to the quick, skilled care she received, I was born safely.
And now, 40 years later, I’m a midwife - supporting others to birth with knowledge, choice, and confidence.

Birth isn’t always predictable - but it can still be empowered.
Here’s to life, to strong mothers, and to compassionate care.

Happy 40th Birthday to me!
🥳🎂

Let’s talk about the cascade of intervention.

It often starts with something small:
A stretch and sweep. A routine induction.
Continuous monitoring that restricts your movement.
Suddenly, labour isn’t unfolding in its own rhythm anymore.

One intervention leads to another…
…and another.

This is the cascade of intervention - a chain reaction where one medical procedure increases the likelihood of more, often moving you further away from the birth you hoped for.

It doesn’t mean interventions are “bad.” Sometimes they’re necessary and even lifesaving.

But it does mean that every choice matters.

When we support physiological birth,
when we create a calm environment,
when we trust the body and give it time
… we often avoid the cascade altogether.

Informed, respectful care helps you stay in your power.
