Dementia looks different for everyone, and symptoms will also be different depending on what kind of dementia someone has.

Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies are four of the most common forms of dementia, and they can all affect people differently. This is our guide to a few of the most common symptoms for each illness.

By knowing the signs, we can make sure that we don’t brush off or ignore some of these lesser-known symptoms, to help everyone with dementia get a crucial early diagnosis.

Save this post for later, and if you’d like more info visit our website or give our Dementia Support Line a call on 0333 150 3456.

Mark your calendars! HAF Summer bookings open at 9.00am on Thursday, 10 July, 2025!

We're thrilled to announce the return of our Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme this summer, packed with exciting activities for eligible children! The programme runs from Monday, 28 July to Friday, 22 August, 2025.

Simplified booking for your family: This year, we've teamed up with the Eequ booking platform to make securing your child's place easier than ever. You won't need a HAF code! If your child receives Benefits-related Free School meals, the Eequ platform will automatically recognise their eligibility once you create an account and add their details.

If your child has been referred for a funded place by a school or professional but isn't eligible for Free School Meals, the booking process is the same – we'll simply need to approve your booking first against our referral database.

AskSARA - Helping Southend Residents Live Independently

What is AskSARA ?
SARA stands for Self Assessment Rapid Access.
The guide was developed by Living Made Easy, previously known as the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) and part of the Shaw Trust. AskSARA links users to the largest aids to daily living database in Europe, which provides information about items, their use, technical data and where to purchase.

Who it’s for:
People who want to buy their own equipment and don’t necessarily want an onsite assessment can quickly and easily identify simple items of equipment.

People can purchase on-line or visit a local mobility shop

How it works:
• Click the link to the AskSara front page and select topics of interest e.g stairs, bathroom, kitchen.
• Then answer questions to identify what may be causing the concern and what may help.
• After completing this form, a personalised report is produced with:
o Clear, tailored advice on ways to help with daily activities and stay independent at home
o An impartial list of products and equipment which may help, plus information on where to buy them
o Further help and contacts for more information
o An option to save the report and share it with family, friends and care workers.
