You are welcome to join us live or via the recording.

Hi all!
As part of our Residency at Fabric in Birmingham Janine Fletcher and I will also be bringing our somatic explorations of lived experience to a class for Brum Pro on Monday the 25th of March. If you are in the Birmingham area and you are a professional dancer intersted in exploring new ways of working with lived experience we would like to see you there!

Janine (dance-artist) and Kristin (somatic experiencing practitioner) will co-lead a dance class that invites you to tune into sensations, feelings, imagery, and memories that may arise as you move.

What I Do

For me movement is a lot more than a functional necessity of life or an exercise. When we move we express ourselves, we communicate, we experience, learn and create change in many different ways. Just like our movements are more than exercise our bodies are more than muscle and bone. Our fascial and nervous systems for example have a huge impact on our movement ability. Vice versa movement can have a huge impact on the above systems. All of the above affect our life and how we experience it. Within that lies an incredible, subtle power for enormous change.

I draw from a training background in Pilates, movement science, manual therapy, neuroscience, somatic experiencing (SE) and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) to work not with your body, but with you as a person and individual in motion.

There are many different goals that we can work towards. A mindful movement practice, focused on quality of motion, efficiency and connectivity can help you feel more comfortable in your body and more confident in your abilities. It can help you maintain or improve your flexibility, strength, stability, soft tissue and joint health and allows you to master new physical challenges. Therefore it is a great and different way to improving sporting performance or aid injury recovery. A nice side-effect is also a more balanced and relaxed mental state.

My particular focus of working with the fascial and nervous systems in motion makes my approach particularly helpful and suited for those suffering from neurological diseases (i.e. MS, ME, cerebral palsy and parkinson’s), mental health problems (i.e. depression, anxiety, body dysphoria, dissociation), chronic pain (i.e. fibromyalgia, polymyalgia and EDS) and physical disability, chronic injury or PTSD (caused by traumatic events such as combat or car accidents).
