THANK YOU! ❤️ To those who attended this week’s meditation classes. After some Buddhist words of wisdom, we practised Mindfulness of Breathing. We then learnt that mindfulness is one of the most scientifically researched meditation practices and one which induces neuroplasticity, physically changing the brain’s wiring and unwanted patterns of behaviour. Scientific research has found the following key benefits: Reduced stress, anxiety and depression by lowering cortisol levels and decreasing rumination; improved cognitive function including improved working memory, focus and attention; better sleep quality; improved immune function; lower blood pressure; reduction in chronic pain symptoms and enhanced Self-Awareness helping to fight behavioural issues like addictions. Research has found measurable structural changes in the brain leading to reduced Amygdala size responsible for fear and stress responses and strengthened Prefrontal Cortex leading to better logical thinking and emotional regulation. Studies have also found increased levels of empathy and compassion in those practising mindfulness. Of course there are also numerous anecdotal and spiritual benefits, some of which we pointed out in the class. We then practised our Guided Visualisation “Journey to the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu.” Glad you found the classes relaxing and beneficial.
