Brighton marathon 5hr35m ✅

My first & (possibly) last marathon & what a humbling experience!

I set out to run a marathon with only 2 months of training & what can I say, I did it…but only just!

So what did I learn?

Marathons are no joke & require a structured dedicated prep of 4+ months minimum!

My prep consisted of 4 long runs, 15k/23k/28k/32k in combination with hyrox training.
Trying to mix the two ultimately left me underprepared for both.

Completing 2 hyroxes & a marathon within 8 weeks, whilst working 60+ hands on hours within the clinic is too much, however that’s the life of an amateur athlete I suppose!

Cutting corners with my prep led to me dropping all strength training, I felt I had a strong base to risk this but my hamstrings & hips flexors certainly were on the verge of tearing within the marathon.
I’ve massively dodged a bullet by not picking up a major injury within my prep & I would never ever recommend patients drop resistance training out of their training preps regardless of sport!

I tried to maximise my recovery time with the use of compression boots, regular massage, cold plunge which all help, however these shouldn’t be a substitute for a solid training program, good quality rest/sleep & nutrition.

Mentally the toughest thing I have ever done, when I signed up I welcomed the mental challenge & I certainly got that on the day.

My ego wanted sub 5hrs, but aside from the inadequate prep, sun burn & sunstroke, I am proud to have entered the 0.01% of the world’s population to complete a marathon!

6 years ago this month I graduated with a masters degree in Osteopathy after 5 years of intense training!

Shortly after that I gained my official registration with the general osteopathic council & started BB Osteopathy.

That’s:
🔹11 years within the profession
🔸6 years post grad
🔹1 year in my own premises
🔸thousands of clinical hours
🔹thousands of patients helped

My goal has always been the same, to help as many people as I can, live a life free from pain.

For those who have supported me & the business over the years I will always be thankful to you.

Building a business from scratch isn’t easy, but it’s always been made easier knowing the good work I am doing is helping others get back to the things they love, free from pain!

So here’s to many more happy years to come 🎉🥳🍻

If you have an insurance policy with Axa, Aviva, Vitality or WPA then your treatment with us will be covered by them!
All you need to get started is a claim reference number from them & we do the rest!

We have multiple treatment/therapy rooms available for hire within the clinic! The spaces would be ideal for sports or massage therapists/councillors or nutritionists. Hourly/daily or monthly rates negotiable so drop us a message for further details!

We are very excited to welcome Stephen to the BB Osteopathy Clinic🙌🏼👌🏼👍🏼

Stephen received a Bachelors in Osteopathy with honours from the London School of Osteopathy in 2021 👨🏻‍🎓

He aims to get people free from musculoskeletal pain through his osteopathic treatments, alongside medical acupuncture & exercise rehabilitation. 💪🏼

4 weeks out and we’ve finally got some running in the legs

Never been so nervous to start a run which started with 1 min run/walk on Tuesday then progressed into an hour straight by Saturday

Mad how de-conditioned your legs can get by missing 2.5 weeks

Looking to hit 3+ hours total this week then build for the next few weeks then see what’s what come marathon day 😅🤷‍♂️

Shout out to BB Osteopathy for getting me back moving so earlier
