There’s something truly powerful about children spending time in nature 🌿

From climbing trees to building dens and exploring muddy trails, outdoor play helps children grow in ways that classrooms alone simply can’t. Time in nature boosts physical health, builds confidence, sparks creativity, and supports emotional wellbeing. It also encourages curiosity, problem-solving, and a deeper connection to the world around them.

At our Rutland Outdoor Education Centre, we see every day how nature transforms learning into an adventure — where children feel free, capable, and inspired.

As environmentalist Richard Louv said:
“Time in nature is not leisure time; it’s an essential investment in our children’s health.”

Let’s give children the space to explore, discover, and thrive — the natural way 🌳

Learning doesn’t always happen at a desk 🌱
Sometimes it happens while feeding animals, building dens, or simply being outdoors.
At Rutland Outdoor Education Centre, every moment on the farm is an opportunity to grow—confidence, resilience, and connection.

Fun Fact Friday

🌱 Assistant Nursery Manager 🌱

Are you passionate about early years education and inspired by the magic of the outdoors? We are looking for a dedicated Assistant Nursery Manager who shares our love of nature, exploration, and adventure to join our Forest & Farm School Nursery team.

Our setting offers children the opportunity to learn, grow, and discover through hands-on experiences with the natural world — from muddy boots and woodland walks to meeting our farm animals and exploring seasonal changes. We believe the best learning happens when children feel inspired, safe, and free to explore.

🌿 About the Role
As Assistant Nursery Manager, you will support the Nursery Manager in leading a passionate team to create a safe, nurturing, and inspiring outdoor learning environment. You will help ensure high standards of care, education, and safeguarding, while encouraging curiosity, confidence, and a love for the natural world in every child.

🌻 We are looking for someone who:
Has experience working in an Early Years setting
Holds a relevant Level 3 qualification or above (or equivalent)
Has leadership or supervisory experience (desirable)
Has a genuine love of the outdoors and child-led learning
Is passionate about supporting children’s development through nature-based experiences
Is organised, proactive, and supportive of a team environment
Shares our values of curiosity, creativity, and kindness

If you are enthusiastic about early years education and believe children thrive when given the freedom to explore the natural world, we would love to hear from you.

Apply today and be part of something truly special. 🌿 nursery@roec.co.uk

We are based on a working farm in rural Rutland where we combine outstanding outdoor teaching and learning with day-to-day life on the farm.
