The Health Safety Executive (HSE) has launched its formal consultation on proposed updates to the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and related guidance.

This consultation seeks views on legislative and guidance changes designed to enhance protection for workers and the public from asbestos exposure. It follows HSE’s ongoing review of how asbestos management and control can be improved across the industry.

The consultation aims to seek stakeholders’ views on three proposals:
📍 To ensure the independence and impartiality of roles in the four-stage clearance process to further minimise the risk of exposure from asbestos to workers and building users after the removal of asbestos
📍 To drive up the standard of asbestos surveys to ensure dutyholders have the information they need to safely manage asbestos risks
📍 To clarify the type of work that constitutes work with asbestos known as Notifiable Non-Licensed Work (NNLW)

The consultation is particularly relevant to dutyholders, asbestos analysts, asbestos removal contractors, asbestos surveyors, and associated professions including facilities management and construction.

The consultation will run until 9 January 2026.

Last week, Lindsay delivered a NUCO First Aid at Work course at our Bury St Edmunds training centre. Using our dedicated practical training area, we gave delegates plenty of space to practise vital QCPR skills on manikins, building confidence and competence. 👏
