The Comic Clinic is evolving.

Due to health issues over the past 18 months, I have decided to scale back the comic pressing service and reprioritise on the plans for selling comics.

If health allows, I will honour the existing waiting list, press the occasional comic for friends, but beyond the waiting list I will be extremely selective on any future pressing work.

With that said, I am extremely pleased to announce we will be launching Comic-Centric at the upcoming ‘To Be Continued’ (formerly NICE) show in Bedford, on the 14th & 15th September.

We look forward to seeing some of you there and showing what we have for sale. In the meantime please follow the new page where we will be teasing a few of the great comics that will be on sale.

To facilitate the growth of our business and reduce everyone’s frustration with turnaround times, as of now, we will be focusing on higher value comics and have removed the lower value tiers.

With the new generation of comic presser entering the UK market over the past 2 years, there are now plenty of options for those who prioritise speed and cost over experience and quality. Until now, 90% of our work has always been lower value, and with the amount of time most comics take to work on properly, our return on time invested in all comics has been extremely low.

Professionally detailed work is extremely time consuming, and although there are plenty of ways to speed things up and take short cuts, we will not take risks or put out inferior work that anyone could do themselves at home on a T-Shirt press by following simple one-size-fits-all instructions. For a comparison, it is possible to press 20-30 comics per day if we lowered our standards. Instead, in a 14–15 hour workday we typically start on 4-5 new comics per day and continue to work on them until we are satisfied they are in the best possible shape.

As much as we have enjoyed helping many people’s collections, we have reached a point where we need to value our time more and to restore some semblance of a work/life balance.

After almost 18 months of planning, head scratching and digging through some of the 250,000+ photographs of comics we have worked on, we are pleased (and relieved) to finally publish our website. It is far from finished and there are a lot of plans for the future, but having worked on it for a few minutes here and there (when work allows), we feel it can finally go live and will add to it in time.

We had been planning to upgrade our magnification capabilities for some time now. Delays due to Covid restricting the ability to go and test different equipment, and hampering available stocks in the UK, it wasnt until a little over a week ago we were finally able to go and test out several options at the GT Vision Ltd UK showroom. Thanks to Bob Town for spending a couple of hours with us demonstrating various solutions. All the way through, from the initial enquiry, until delivery of our new digital microscope, all of the staff could not have done more to make sure we found the right product.

Some of the great first appearances we have worked on in the last few weeks.
