As an aerobic workout, tai chi is not particularly taxing, but studies have shown that as little as eight weeks of practice can improve older adults’ scores in basic tasks such as rising from a chair and walking – as well as reducing fear of falling. Longer periods of study show further benefits

Studies have shown poor balance can be associated with serious health problems – as well as increased risks of falls as we get older. But there are ways to make yours better

Sometimes trying to draw a feeling can be insightful. How does it feel to be grounded?

Natural elements. Water is heavy and fluid. Moving from one stance to another is like allowing water to flow from one leg into the other. The hips remain relaxed and balanced, the frame gently upright.

The water adds to a feeling of rootedness and a lower centre of gravity.

How do you move?

How would you like to join me for tai chi in the park?

Starting this Thursday evening 7pm, we will be doing some practice sessions on Castle Green, Hereford. And we'll just see how things go from there. Outdoors is so different and we'll be taking advantage of the light evenings through July and early August.

Let me know if you're coming. We’re meeting at Nelsons Column.

Weather permitting going forward so keep an eye on my page for last minute updates.

£5 pay as you go.

See you soon. Paula

Terrific hot weather at the moment. It’s so fortunate that my Online classes are in the mornings before it really starts to heat up. This evening I have a large fan working away and I’m sat against a cold wet towel to keep cool. I’ve even placed a wet towel on the floor for my dog 🐶. What’s your hot weather hack?

How would you like to learn tai chi at a pace that's comfortable for you? How would you like to decide what aspects of tai chi are explored?

Many people find it hard to roll up to a general class - especially if it is in something that they know nothing about. This gets round that fear, it helps you become very knowledge in a short time.

Tai chi is excellent for getting back into sporting life. It's great for all round physical and mental health.

The difference between tai chi and yoga is that with tai chi you are moving all the time. You are on your feet (or seated) and consciously playing with your balance and shifting your weight around. You do not aim to stretch to the point of tension. Your focus is on the articulation and lubrication of your joints.

We have an excellent special discount on at the moment. Book 6 sessions for just £120. That works out at just £20 per session for a 1-2-1.

Start your journey with a free 15 minute, no obligation, video consultation and find out how the course will work for you. Email or message for more information.

I love this quote!

In tai chi, there is lots of talk about increasing the connections in the brain through learning the movements in tai chi. At first, we find that it all looks pretty complicated, and the brain wants to understand and control the actions. What becomes apparent is that to learn the moves, we must let go of challenging and dissecting the movements with the mind. Instead, it is the softness and wonder of discovery that allows the actions to come alive. And with that softness of approach, the new super neuron pathways are built.

The greatest joy of working in your own space for me is the company of my two dogs.

I teach tai chi online every Monday and Friday, and occasionally one of my dogs will decide to join me in front of the camera.

Alfie is very patient, and as an older dog was feeling in need of close company on this day. I worked the exercises around him and we were all happier for the experience.

Tai chi is a beautiful way to end the week. Today's practice focuses on relaxing and lengthening the major hip muscles and shoulder muscles. I like the idea of hip sway - the exercises are simple and achieve very subtle lubrication of the joints.

This week I got into some traditional sit-up exercises with my partner. I have not done any for years, and I was amazed at how easy they were for me, and all I have been doing is tai chi!
