Here at The Pilates Space we pride ourselves in teaching Pilates in the way that it should be taught. We have a variety of small group classes, both in person and online, as well as 1:1 tuition. This means that we can tailor our classes to the level and focus needed for each and every person, and the happiness and dedication of our clients is testament to this. Our dedicated 1:1 room has a Pilates

reformer - a specialised piece of Pilates apparatus on which you can execute a wide range of spring based resistance exercises, improving mobility, stability and flexibility in your entire body. All of our teachers have been professionally and thoroughly trained and have a great passion for Pilates. Our classes are open to everyone, no matter your level of fitness, strength, flexibility or age. We will work our hardest to provide you with a class that will bring you the greatest benefit. 🟢 SIDE BEND 🟢

This month we have been building towards some of the exercises towards the end of the classical mat series which ask for a strong shoulder girdle and good placement of your shoulders.
These exercises bear a lot of weight through these parts of the body so we've been prepping with the exercises in the second two videos to build good understanding of alignment and to build strength.

In the words of Joseph Pilates, this is not a system of haphazard exercises designed to over-develop some muscles at the expense of others but is designed to work ALL of you and to reflect strength, grace and balance back into your everyday movement.

🛞 Spine Corrector 🛞

We've been working on this in classes for the last couple of weeks. I ❤️ that this is an original piece of Joseph Pilates apparatus so we are keeping it close to the original method.

• Connect with greater awareness to your back body and work to 'correct' any asymmetries, making sure you are as even as possible in your placement and in your wheeling of your spine.
• Work towards and be successful in some of the more challenging classical exercises (like Rollover and Side Kick Kneeling in these videos).
• It always makes for a class with a lot of laughter amongst the hard work. 💪☺️

What we ❤️ about this amazing review is how it highlights the fact that Pilates works on every bit of you.
Joseph Pilates was clear about this in his writing about the method - 'Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit'.
If taught correctly, Pilates is so much more than exercise.
It makes us happy when our clients reflect this back at us!
There are many places you can go to to 'work out'. We have strived to build a studio that respects the intention behind this amazing system so that you get the FULL benefit of Pilates.

Today I'm inspired by a recent post by The Pilates Center, a place of excellence for Pilates and all it stands for. They quoted Joseph Pilates as saying,
“Patience and persistence are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavor.”
They talk about Pilates being a lifelong practice and that made me think about how long I have been practising and how much I have learnt along the way! (I have a few corrections I'd give my younger self in these exercises! ⬆️🤣)
The photos are me at 25 in the year 2000 when I was doing my year long apprenticeship at a studio in London.
It was a beautiful studio with handmade wooden equipment and I slowly but surely learnt all of the classical Pilates repertoire on the mat and apparatus.
Here I am 25 years later, still teaching, still learning and still excited by practising this system of movement!
I am forever grateful to my first teachers Miranda Bass, who I studied the classical mat with for two years at the tender age of 19, and Heather Sampson, who saw something in me and committed to taking me on as an apprentice.
I have worked hard to create a space where I can teach Pilates as I learnt it - with care, passion and expertise, and feel honoured to pass my knowledge of this amazing method of movement onto others.
Here is to many more years of patience, persistence and learning! ☺️💪🙏

Posting some more of the lovely reviews we have recently received.🥰We pride ourselves on having knowledgeable and expertly trained teachers and it is so rewarding when our clients can see this too! Pilates is not something that can or should be learnt in a couple of days - it's always worth checking how long your teacher has been practising and training for. 👍
With a limit of 6 in a class, our classes can challenge each and every person whilst tailoring to individual needs and goals. Small groups are the only way to do this! We are truly passionate about teaching Pilates as it is meant to be taught. 🌟
We are super busy at the moment but do have a couple of spaces going if you would like to come and try us out.

We have been quietly working away as Letchworth's first dedicated Pilates studio for the last 16 years. Pilates is our focus and our expertise and the 35 classes we have running throughout the week are testament to this. 💪⭐
BUT sometimes someone or something special comes along and we open up our beautiful space to other things. 🧎‍♀️🤸🏽‍♀️
This Sunday we have teaching a stretch focussed class and a sound bowl session. And Forrest yoga teacher teaching her regular Sunday morning session.
