At HILS we know that life is a little bit harder for many at the moment, so we are big advocates for taking time to look after yourself.
This Self Care Awareness Day, we asked our team members what things they do to look after themselves, we had some great responses (not all printable though!!). Here are some of the top answers, let us know if there are any you think are missing.

“This was the place that helped him. That helped me.”

When Rod passed away, Sandra didn’t ask for flowers. She asked for donations to HILS because she knew how much our dementia groups had meant to both of them.

Rod found laughter and friendship again. Sandra found support, and the strength to keep going.

If you’ve ever cared for a loved one with dementia, you’ll know how much that matters.

A donation to HILS isn’t just a number. It’s companionship. Relief. Hope.

At HILS, we know food is just the beginning.
For many of our clients, a hot meal is the only one they’ll eat that day, and our driver may be the only person they see.

Meals on wheels is more than a delivery. It’s a lifeline.

Help us reach more people who are isolated, vulnerable, or recovering from illness.

“Those two days a week were when Rod laughed.”

Dementia took so much from Rod and his wife Sandra. But thanks to HILS' dementia groups, Rod found joy, belonging, and laughter again, and Sandra got a moment to breathe.

When Rod passed away, Sandra didn’t ask for flowers. She asked for donations to HILS. Because she knew the difference our services made.

We’re SE100 Award Winners.....and joint number one in the UK!

(Sharing the top spot with the fantastic team at GLL!)

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been named joint winners of the Social Business Pioneer award at the NatWest SE100 Social Business Awards 2025!

At last night’s awards celebration in Manchester, we were recognised as one of the top two social enterprises in the entire UK, sharing the number one spot with the brilliant GLL, one of the largest social enterprises in the country.

To be named joint first place among such an inspiring list of organisations is an incredible honour. It’s a testament to the passion, resilience, and impact of our team, and to everyone who supports what we do.

A massive thank you to Pioneers Post and NatWest Social & Community Capital for recognising the power of social enterprise, and for a truly fantastic evening.
Here’s to aiming high, doing good, and celebrating the wins (big and small) together. 🧡

☀️ Hello July!
We’ve made it to July—cue the sunshine, suncream, and a very British mix of "it’s too hot" and "we really did need the rain..."

This month’s calendar features the beautiful Wi******er Cathedral—a peaceful spot to imagine cooling down in if you're melting in the heatwave!

🌿 Don’t forget to stay hydrated, check in on clients and neighbours, and keep those fans running.
Here’s to a month full of sunshine (the manageable kind), iced drinks, and summer smiles.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, it's going to be another scorcher. In this weather, it's so important to look after ourselves and check in with those around us who might be vulnerable in the heat.

🌞 Try to stay cool by keeping in the shade, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding too much activity during the hottest parts of the day.
🌞 Pop on a hat, slap on the sun cream, and keep curtains or blinds closed in sunny rooms to help keep your home cooler.
🌞 Please also check in on neighbours, friends, or family members who may be more at risk – especially older people or those with health conditions. A quick call or visit could mean the world.

Our wonderful drivers will also be keeping a close eye out for signs that the heat might be affecting our clients. They’ll be offering to make cold drinks and checking everyone’s OK when they make their deliveries.

Let’s all do our bit to keep each other safe and well – and if you need an excuse for an ice lolly or two, consider this it! 🍦😎
