𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫: Our surgeries will be closing at 1pm today as part of our monthly PLT. We ask that patients call back tomorrow from 8am for routine issues or if in any doubt contact NHS 24.
We will still be accepting 𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 calls.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐏𝐋𝐓?
Protected Learning Time (PLT) in Scottish GP surgeries is a scheduled, recurring afternoon closure that allows staff—including GPs, nurses, and administrative staff—to take part in essential, non-public-facing training, professional development, and team development sessions.
𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬?
Practices typically close from 1 pm onwards on specific dates. We host our PLT session on 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫?
It provides an opportunity to review and improve clinical guidance, patient care services, safety protocols, and team communication.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬?
During the closure, the surgery is not open for routine queries. However, urgent care is maintained through dedicated GP and nurse support in the community, often arranged by the local Health and Social Care Partnership.
𝐔𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞:
For urgent medical issues that cannot wait until the surgery reopens, patients are usually directed to 111 or a dedicated local urgent care service.

⚠️ 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬
*Update on MenB Outbreak in Kent (𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘱 𝘉)

" Public health teams in England are responding to an outbreak of group B meningococcal disease in Kent. This situation is local to that area, and there is currently no evidence of increased risk in Scotland.
People in Scotland can be reassured that there is no increased risk of MenB or other meningococcal disease here at present.

Therefore, no additional vaccination or catch-up campaigns are currently recommended locally.
Public Health Scotland continues to monitor the situation closely."

Although there is no identified risk in our area, this situation highlights the importance of knowing the symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia. These illnesses can develop very quickly, so early recognition is vital.

🩺 Symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia can include:
• Severe or worsening headache
• Sudden high fever
• Stiff neck
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Joint and muscle pain
• Dislike of bright lights
• Very cold hands and feet
• A rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass
• Seizures
• Confusion or delirium
• Extreme sleepiness or difficulty waking

If you or someone you know develops symptoms of meningitis or septicaemia, please seek urgent medical help by going to your nearest Emergency Department or calling 999.

Calling all Patients who have been loaned a BP monitor by the Practice. We have a stock of 30 but are currently down to our last two. If you have one, then please return it to you nearest surgery as soon as possible. If the machine looks like the one in the 2nd photo, then you do not need to return it.
