We are a small batch distillery. We make completely natural scents, creams and balms from flowers, bark, leaves, roots, blossom and moss that we pick in the fields, mountains and gardens that we love. Our work is a conversation with the plants. We grow, harvest and forage for our own and then distil, refine and transform their essence into singularly lovely natural scent and nourishing skincare.

Last day of the hols then back to work tomorrow. So I thought I’d celebrate by making Machair Buns which I used to make by the 100 when we also had the Temple Cafe. They are utterly divine soft, buttery, not too sweet, Meadowsweet laden buns. I invented the recipe which will definitely be in the book when I finally get around to finishing it. I’ve made these for the team to eat tomorrow as a welcome back to work treat (if I don’t scoff them myself😂)

Morning to evening today - blizzards and sunshine alternating what felt like every 20minutes. When the sun came through it was utterly beautiful. In between hasty walks I made my favourite Turkish bread Açma, soft lightly sweet enriched dough twisted into a round and topped with çörek which are black seeds (we also put the oil pressed from those in our Wild Beauty Balm)

My walk a few minutes ago - the moon was huge in the sky, the light reflecting off the snow. As I walked home I could feel the moonlight casting down onto me - it felt magical and now I feel replenished. We so often avoid the dark because it feels unsafe but here night walking feels so safe, the darkness envelops and cocoons so comfortingly. I’ve never lived anywhere where the moon seems so present and the energy of it so gentle.

We’ve jumped between blue skies and blizzards today - I haven’t managed to get out for a walk which is unheard of. The weather when it closes in is so fast and so awful I’ve spent the day pottering around instead. Good for Scotland for having both the 1st and 2nd as bank holidays 😊

As we amble towards midnight, the rain is lashing down outside, I can hear the waves crashing on the beach and the wind is whistling down the chimney. It’s a night to sit in a chair by the fire, relax and reflect. I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year, 2025 was kind to us, we have quietly grown, found our feet and moved purposefully forward with a fantastic team of people - Caroline, Matt, Alexander, Sam, Ellen, Jo, Pippa, Ianthe plus friends from afar who join us from time to time. We are all working hard to rewrite the script on women’s health and wellbeing into something kinder for people and planet. In 2026 we’ll be developing a few new products that you have been asking for and starting the design work for our lifestyle collection. These are exciting times for us. So many, many thanks for all your support and messages and follows and love, we all really appreciate them and hope to welcome lots of you into our Apothecary in Harris so you can feel the joy too. ♥️🌿😊💚🙏🏻❤️🥰🌿

Phew that was quite a busy few days - thank you so much for all your orders. The last of the orders guaranteed for Christmas have now left the island. We’re happy to keep sending out but do be aware that they will arrive after Christmas - we are always at the mercy of the sea and wind up here ♥️

Our Story

We are unique in the world of skincare. We are a small batch distillery making natural scents, creams, aromatic waters and balms from flowers, bark, leaves, roots, blossom and moss that we grow or pick wild in the fields, mountains and gardens that we love in Sussex, Cyprus and Scotland. Our business has grown from a particular way of being, of gathering and noticing. It’s a slow, meditative process, a precise art that has been passed from hand-to-hand drawing on the alchemy of intuition and the wisdom of generations of healers, travellers and makers. We like to think that each small pot carries something subtly transformative - a vitality that comes from working with the seasons and harvesting by hand at just the right time; each one has the defining characteristics of a particular harvest, a singular moment. It’s important to us to really understand the language of smell and sensation. Scent is immediate, arresting, elusive and comforting. Like music, the notes of a scent, evoke memory, pull us back to particular places and speak to our emotions. We think that the best products capture the vitality and spirit of place within them. So many of us are separated from nature - our own nature and the rhythms of the natural world. For us, it’s all about the plants, community, environment and an appreciation of the inter-connectedness of us all. We hope that our products have a subtle, nurturing influence on body, mind and spirit and that everything that we make is a gentle catalyst for reconnection.
