Year of the Fire Horse.
(Thank you to ChatGPT for turning up the flames in these photos, a little artistic licence never hurt a horse-loving firekeeper!)
Fire and horses - two of my greatest loves and deepest teachers.
The stallion I’m riding here was strong, sensitive, and not easy when we first met.
He hadn’t known much steadiness before so trust took time.
With love, patience, and listening, something shifted.

I’ve often thought riding is the perfect analogy for life.
The reins are a conversation.
Too tight - constriction.
Too loose - disconnection.
In the middle - contact. Connection. Partnership.

Fire is the same.
Too much - it rages.
Too little - it peters out.
Tended well - it transforms.
Both bow to no one.
Both respond to coherence.

I have been bucked off. Bolted with. Burnt.
And each time, I returned more aware.

There is a small, steady spark inside us all, untamed and alive.
It needs tending.
If this truly is a Fire Horse year,
may it not be about power without partnership.

May it be about mastery.
Right relationship.
Power in communion, not control.

Hold the reins with steadiness.
Tend the flame with devotion.
Let your inner fire guide you.

Fresh off the plane and straight into a temazcal 🔥 before heading to el pueblo mágico for La Voz de las Abuelas, the voice of the grandmothers. Thirteen grandmothers coming together from across North, South & Central America.
Such an honour to tend the sacred fire, sit in prayer with these wise women, listen to the whispers of the land, the mountains, the ancestors, and gather in heart, song and sisterhood. So much gratitude for this beginning.

Equinox blessings!
The wheel continues to turn and we arrive at Equinox, the balance point where day and night meet as equals. The Virgo New Moon and Partial Solar Eclipse ask us to slow down, to reclaim our attention from the pull of technology and return it to the rhythms of body, heart, and Earth. This is the invitation to do less with greater intention; to remember life is sacred in its spaciousness and it moves in cycles of breath, rest, and renewal, something we need to cultivate in our contemporary society that so often keeps us distanced from the cycles of life.

We now turn towards the West, the place of inward manifestation and the time of gathering and harvesting. In the South, the season of growth and play, we needed to tend to our seeds, both the ones we planted and the ones we carried unknowingly. Grandmother Turtle reminded us of timing, rest, and play, of fire’s gift to burn away what no longer serves. Now we step into the West, the season of harvest. This is the time to gather what has ripened, to ask: What truly sustains me? Which seeds will I save for spring, and which fruits will nourish me through the long nights to come?

We have six weeks to fill our baskets, choosing carefully what will sustain us through the descent into winter, stay steady and strong, and manifest with care. Our words, our choices, our actions are seeds too. What we create in this balance-point will echo into the seasons ahead.

May we walk this path with reverence, honouring the polarities of East and West, North and South, so that we are not pulled apart by them, but held together, in balance, as the wheel carries us forward.
