I have not posted in months and months! I am sorry I struggle with social media πŸ˜…
Much has been going on in the last few months:
I applied to become a Maternity support worker again, I was very lucky and was offered a position at Worthing Hospital as a Maternity Support Worker with the view to move to Haywards Heath once a position becomes available. It has been a very long drive there and back for me, but I have been so grateful to have been welcomed back into the NHS! This coming week will be my last week in Worthing and then I will commence properly in Haywards Heath 😍 I have learnt a huge amount in Worthing and I look forward to keep learning every day in Haywards Heath ‼️
I still work as a Postnatal Doula but it is good for me to also be employed and not be talking to anyone about money πŸ™ˆ

I have a horrible cold! 😫 This is how much I love my work as a postnatal doula: I am drinking a concoction of raw garlic, lemon, ginger, cayenne pepper and water every 2 hours to try and kick the cold up the butt! I want and need to be back to full health by Monday thank you very much!

Another thing that makes me happy and helps me reset my mind is foraging!
It's so important to really pay attention to what makes you happy, what helps you reset your mind? Being aware of that is helpful in your Postnatal period as well as in general life!
Of course we can't always manage the activities that help us, however we can then try to compromise, find something similar/as close to the real thing as possible! One of the things your Postnatal doula can help you with !

Where would you most like to go to relax, feel at peace and just be happy? For me my childhood summers were spent at lakes and lidos in Germany, those were such happy days! I have found a lake local to me, we spent the day there and I felt happy relaxed and at peace, very nostalgic! Bakeries and lakes/lidos is what I miss most from Germany.

.nurturebubble had its first birthday last week! This group was right away everything I could ever have hoped for! and I are so very lucky, we have a real treasure here!
These flowers are from our wonderful volunteer Sarah, who is an absolute vital part of the team! For a minute I thought she had always been there with us! She had to remind me she only joined about half way through the year!
We really appreciate all the help we get from our volunteers, the space we get from all Sainst in Lindfield and all our amazing professionals who come and give their time! We could not do it without them!!

Postnatal Doula support os so varied, every family has different needs, every day brings different challenges and situations. Today I walked someone's beautiful dog so that they could feed and rest. The dog and I had a lovely time and when we got back we returned to a happy baby and happy mum ❀️

Breastfeeding aversion: it happens, it's horrible, you are still very much a loving caring parent! I just wanted you to know that! When you child wants to feed and you feel angry, disgusted, sad, what ever you feel, it does not make you a bad person! It's heartbreaking to feel like that!

This apparently is me πŸ˜…
This is my once in a while post to say I'm sorry I am not very active on social media!
I'm still here and still working as a postnatal doula and infant feeding coach!
I also work as a support worker in supported living for adults with autism and/or learning disabilities. I applied for the job thinking its interesting but also needing a regular income. I am a terrible business person, I don't like to think about money! I would love to just give my support for free because everyone deserves postnatal and infant feeding support! Anyway, so I am also a support worker. I had no idea how much I would love it! The team I work woth and the 2 residents are absolutely awesome! I am incredibly lucky to work with them! Incredibly their ethos is exactly in line with how I would like to be as a parent and a person! They use positive behavioural support plans and the point of my role is to help our people to live their best lives possible. So just the same as with the doula work, my job is to work myself out of a job and support people to be the happiest and independent people possible!

So, I keep telling everyone most important thing to learn is to trust your gut, trust your instincts! It's really really hard! Even when we get a gut feeling it can be scary to listen to that feeling!
Well I thought I would share a success story:
My youngest son was absolutely terrified to go to nursery. The first one I took him out of as he was distraught and I felt uncomfortable as they would not inform me of his distress and pressured me to leave him longer and just let him cry.
The second nursery were really understanding and let me stay with him. I am extremely lucky and privileged that due to extremely lucky circumstances I was able to give our son all the time he needed! It took almost 3 months of me going to nursery with him and staying for the whole session for him to then go on his own.
When he then started school he didn't even look back at me, he has gone in happily every day apart from once, he is now in year one!
He has started staying at friends for play dates without me now.
I am able to get up far too early on some days and go to work leaving him asleep with his daddy and brother in the house. (Until recently this would really upset him as he couldn't let me go).
Honestly, trust your gut!! I had a lot of trouble listening to mine, I was being told all sorts but this shows my gut was right!!
I am not the perfect parent at all, I am a trying my best kind of parent, I make tonnes of mistakes, but sometimes things go right! Thank you to my firstborn who has taught me how to trust my gut!
