At Lydfords we understand that food can be a big part of people’s lives and the importance of eating nutritional and delicious foods is very high.

We have a fantastic Head Chef, Joe Grey, who is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to ensuring the residents are always getting the best amount of vitamins and nutrients from the foods they consume. 👨‍🍳

Joe is very good at adapting his menu for people who may have allergies or dislike preferences towards certain foods.

Suggestions are always welcome with regards to what the residents would like to see on the menu. Just because you’re not cooking the food doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to still enjoy your favourite meals!

-For starter was a homemade Ham Hock Terrine and Piccalilli with a small salad garnish. 🍴
-For the main course the residents enjoyed Braised Pulled Pork topped with Parsnip Mashed Potatoes and served with pan seared Carrots, Cauliflower and Mangetout. 🥗

We recently had another visit from our local PCSO Officer Maria Jackson from Wealden Police! 🏡

People came along to discuss any concerns they may have had regarding crime in the community.👮‍♀️

Maria also brought information for people to take away to help prevent SCAMs as well as The Herbert Protocol form and how this would help police to find a missing person living with dementia.

, we’re reminding everyone to stay extra alert 🚨 👀especially as we head into the busy Christmas season.

Scammers are more active than ever, and older adults are often their main targets.

Stay aware, stay connected and look out for one another.

We are extremely grateful to have our upstairs dining room where we can offer private dining for family and friends to enjoy.🥂

Today Chris invited a group of their friends in for lunch. They enjoyed a fantastic 3 course meal cooked by Head Chef Joe consisting of some personal favourites of Chris’s specially made for her and her guests. 🍲

We are happy to be able to give the residents a chance to have these meals and create special memories from them. Our dining room is always open for relatives/residents to book for meals or for celebrations. 🥳

This weeks mini bus trip🚌

Yesterday residents took a trip to Paradise Park to go and see all of the gorgeous Christmas decorations. 🎄

They went for a walk around the shop and picked up a couple of bits in preparation for Christmas time and then made their way into the Cafe for a drink and some cake! 🍰

The residents thoroughly enjoy going out and helping Carole to pick out some decorations for the home. The residents feel more involved this way as it means they can add their personal touch to the home.

And the Employee of the month for October goes to…Tim! 🏆

Tim is our fantastic Maintenance Assistant and he was nominated by multiple staff members for his consistent kindness and always being helpful to residents and staff.

Tim was also nominated for always making an effort to involve the residents in the gardening. 🧑‍🌾

The Residents are very passionate about gardening as many of them enjoyed looking after their gardens in their homes so having the chance to continue this is very special to them and Tim is brilliant at encouraging this.

Well done Tim, a very well deserved award! 🥇

Last weekend the residents were visited by the wonderful Beatrice who is the granddaughter of residents Jackie and Ross.

Beatrice is a fantastic singer who spent the afternoon performing a selection of beautiful songs for the residents. 🎤🎶

A musical performance is one of the residents favourite activities. They enjoy being able to reminisce with music that they have listened to throughout their life and having people come in to perform this live makes it that much more special for them. 💜

Everyone is looking forward to welcoming Beatrice in again in the coming months! 💐

🎃 Halloween Celebrations 🎃

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉

🏅 Silver Success for Hugh Myddelton at Enfield in Bloom 2025 🌸

We’re happy to share that Hugh Myddelton House Care Home in won Silver in the Best Communal Gardens category at the Enfield in Bloom 2025.

The team proudly received their certificate from the Mayor of Enfield, Margaret Greer, at the Chickenshed Theatre – a joyful moment for everyone involved.

A big thank you to all who helped make the gardens so beautiful this year, especially volunteer Pat and Resident Ambassador Rosa.

Jade Shea, General Manager at the home, said: “Our garden is not just a beautiful space it’s a source of comfort, activity and pride for everyone here. This award belongs to our entire community who have worked so hard to make it flourish.”

The Enfield in Bloom competition, held annually, honours the best in gardening and environmental efforts across the borough.

🎉 Rose Water Place Supports Local Fishing Charity 🎉

Rose Water Place Care Home in recently presented Cast A Thought charity with a cheque for £1,260 in support of their Fish and Chat project, which promotes mental health and wellbeing through the therapeutic benefits of angling.

Cast A Thought CIC empowers children, young people and adults through accessible and inclusive fishing activities that encourage mental wellness and connection with nature.

Colleagues and residents welcomed Dave and Helen from Cast A Thought to a small gathering at the home to celebrate and hand over the cheque, awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Hadrian Rodriguez, General Manager at Rose Water Place, shared: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities and Cast A Thought ensures that every cast of the line brings hope, healing and togetherness in the community.”
