Are you cool as a cucumber or a rabbit in the headlights when you're asked to do a presentation or make a speech? 😧

If you’re not a professional speaker or accomplished actor, it’s unlikely that you will confidently say that you’re looking forward to an impending work presentation or any other sort of public speaking engagement. In fact, most people will try their utmost to avoid public speaking and some are so terrified, it results in a panic attack.

As this is usually a phobia or just a lack of self-belief and confidence, it’s not a difficult one to fix using hypnotherapy. And of course, once you’ve accomplished one speech successfully, you then have evidence that in fact you are capable and can build confidence in yourself off the back of it. 💪

Below is a message I received from a very nervous lady who had to do a presentation to 100 people. Even though she was the expert in the room about her subject and had the presentation well-rehearsed, she was feeling a sense of dread and bouts of anxiety as the day approached.

Ever heard of "Trichotillomania"?

This is a compulsive hair pulling disorder where people pull out their hair. This can include eyebrows and eyelashes, beard or moustache and p***c hair There is often a ritual attached to doing it and at other times it just happens on an unconscious level, completely without thinking.

For the sufferer, it can cause feelings of shame, embarrassment and low self esteem, often with the added stress of trying to hide the compulsion and just not being able stop it with willpower.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, if you ask a smoker you know "how does smoking help you?", invariably they will say "It helps with stress".

This is a common misconception, though understandable, because most smokers will use having a smoke as an excuse to take a break.
It is actually the break that helps them, nothing to do with the cigarette itself.
Ni****ne is a stimulant, it is physiologically impossible for it to calm you down.

There is also the internal nagging from the habit itself that also adds to the general stress of being a smoker.

Constantly having to find a break to smoke, to fit it in between things, to make sure they have the opportunities to smoke in more restricted circumstances, to hide it from children, loved ones or colleagues, to ensure they never run out of supplies...standing outside in the cold and rain at the pub, the list goes on...

Being controlled by the habit actually creates anxiety and stress.

So, if you're a smoker, next time you light up, consider this and be truly present with that smoke, no other distractions, give it your full attention.

Notice exactly what it is giving you or not giving you in that moment.

Is it too late to stop smoking once you have lung disease?

Quitting smoking, even after years of to***co use and the development of conditions like COPD, can significantly improve lung health. Smoking cessation reduces inflammation in the airways, allowing the lungs to heal and function more efficiently.

Whilst existing damage may not be fully reversible, quitting smoking slows down the progression of COPD and preserves remaining lung function.

Over time, this leads to improved respiratory function, including increased lung capacity and better oxygen exchange. This means less difficulty breathing and improved ability to perform daily activities.

Additionally, quitting smoking reduces the risk of exacerbations in COPD, which can lead to hospitalisations.

Regardless of past smoking habits, quitting smoking remains one of the most effective ways to enhance lung health and overall quality of life for individuals with COPD.

I hope that if you are a smoker, you are succeeding with your 2024 New Year's resolution to quit once and for all.🤞

But for many smokers, willpower alone or ni****ne replacement therapies just can't can't compete with the powerful habit that is deeply ingrained in your mind. It usually wins out in the end and before you know it, you're right back in that smoking prison once more.
