Last night I taught my final class before I become a mama! 🤰🏻🌳 Outdoors in the woods - as a pop up session with a small group of my regular students 💫

We practised posture after posture to the sounds of birds, a cuckoo and a woodpecker throughout the evening✨🌱🪶 Very special…

I’m fully finished teaching now until a few months time. I may pick up teaching again, in this same location in July and August 🧘🏻‍♀️

And here I am! … 28 weeks pregnant 🤰🏻 Well and truly in the final trimester now 🫠

Here I am getting weight off my spine, feeling inverted and free! I feel no load on my lumbar in this position. Hurrah! 🙃

My practise at the moment is very much “by the body, for the body” - A Prashant Iyengar teaching.

My nasal passages are restricted because of enlarged bloody cells. I can’t breathe with any depth or quality! … so asana’s (yoga postures) are simply body movements. There’s no real internalisation or meditation in them because my breathing cannot take me there.

“Breath works within the body to affect the mind”. This is yoga. 🧘🏻‍♀️

So, a yoga practise of “by the body, for the body”… can be translated here as “I have back pain, which means I will practise to relieve my back!”

Catching up on social media 👩🏻‍💻 To apparently stay visible in this online world! … A snapshot from a Restorative & Pranayama class last month, with my new yoga props in action. 5kg weights! 🏋️‍♀️

Weights are placed on the thighs in this asana (yoga posture) to bring an experience of “rooting down”. 🧘🏻‍♀️

Props placed under the spine and the back of the head not only create relaxation, but create a broad space and openness to breathe! ✨ … taking our conscious awareness inside ourselves.

I taught this class of Pranayama (Breathwork) throughout all yoga postures like this. Supported. Quietened yet attentive. Where students achieve a meditative state through ‘conscious breathing actions’ within asana 🧘🏻💫🧘🏻‍♂️

National Iyengar Yoga Day 💛 A nourishing day! … Usual Saturday morning class ➡️ helping out at Malling Community Centre for a free afternoon of Yoga hosted by Sallie Sullivan.

So lovely to help out and join in a yoga class with my bump! With my dear friends Jo Clayton Yoga, Gareth, Tabitha and Iyengar Yoga in Sussex 🧘🏻‍♀️🧘🏻‍♂️🧘🏻

Sallie talked about the origins of yoga (with demonstrations of postures as they’ve evolved through time) So interesting to listen to her talk 🫶🏼 A gem of knowledge ✨ So nice to also practise Iyengar Yoga in a room full of people again… 🤰🏻

A beautiful lunchtime walk today to the location I taught Woodland Yoga Day last year 🌳🤍🙂 … I won’t be able to host a full day this year, since my baby is due in June! 🤰🏻…. However as I wind down for delivery, and recovery afterwards, I’ll look to host pop up classes back here in May, July and August time 🌿

“2025. 2023. Dates. Days. Times. 🕥 None of it matters”.

I’ve been reflecting on New Years Eve, New Years Day. Why I’m really not bothered by it at all. To me it’s the same as any other day 🧐

For me, time is measured in moments. Experiences. Feelings. Timelessness within, probably / most definitely has come about through yoga 🧘🏻‍♀️

It made me dig out this really old class by Prashant Iyengar, online from Pune, India. It was a class that stuck with me:

“Chronological time is not real. Metaphysically it doesn’t exist. We created it for the practicalities of life. It has gravities on us; however Body. Mind. Breath. Senses. Psyche. They are all ageless. They work together in a timeless zone. They don’t care if it’s 2023. By associating with them, working with them in our practise, we escape, and we experience real time which is the experience of the eternal within. Yoga becomes a twilight state, a state of consciousness, unaltered and unaffected, by the gravities of time”.

So classes like that have maybe sculpted me to be the way I am 😆

Weekly classes start again! From this Saturday 4th January 🧘🏻‍♀️✨💓 10.30am - 12pm at Lewes Subud Centre, £15 per class

Are you a regular yoga class goer but want to deepen your knowledge of asana (postures) and pranayama (breathwork) ? Do you attend quick movement flow based classes but want to understand the poses and breathing in a little more depth? 🧐

Iyengar Yoga classes (Yoga as taught by BKS Iyengar) can give you exactly that 💛

I have an open door 🚪 I have students from all over, all ages, all different capabilities.This class is General Level & Intermediate, and I accept anybody into this class who isn’t a first timer or raw beginner to yoga.

Pregnancy practise - Parivrtta Janu Sirsasana 🙂 One of my greatest back ache relievers! 🙌🏼

Going into 18 weeks now… 🤰🏻 My energy feels abundant compared to the last 3 months! I can actually move! and have the energy to explore things in my practise 🧘🏻‍♀️

I’ve placed a bolster under my side ribs from an article I found online by IYNAUS… So soothing! 🫠 …. The softness felt there, combined with firmness of the arms pulling with the chair to twist was amazing! Back of the skull supported by a soft blanket 🙏🏼 Heavenly ✨

As I wind down for Christmas, I’m sharing a photo of the last class of 2024 🧘🏻‍♀️ Saturday mornings in January 2025 will be in this beautiful hall Lewes Subud Centre ✨ … Isn’t it stunning.

In the last class students asked me, “what are we working on this week?” … I said all of it! … We flowed (shock horror! flow in an Iyengar class, yes we do it too!) and moved throughout all postures, sequentially, one after the other. With all the knowledge they’d gained over recent months of classes.

Yoga is yoga. Iyengar yoga is simply yoga as taught by BKS Iyengar 🧡 … Should’ve seen his flow practise in the 60’s 😆

Wish I’d taken a video of this last class. As always the picture is just a snippet of a beautiful class in a moment of quietness 💫

15 weeks pregnant - this is the only posture I have done for the last 3 months. Dwi Pada Viparita Dandasana on the backbender 🧡

I’ve laid here for 20 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes. Breathing into every bit of space that’s been made. Breathing into every single part of my back which has ached since the start of pregnancy🤰🏻

Fatigue has only allowed me to do this. The props left pre set up - I walk in and I go on it, stay on it, become healed by it, and come away a new person. I had no idea massive fatigue at the start of pregnancy was a thing!! Powerful. 🙈

I’ve got so much gratitude to B.K.S Iyengar for inventing this backbender… and Sallie Sullivan for lending it to me! Each timber slat is designed and placed for each back rib. (Legs are parallel for pregnant women, otherwise you would fully arch the whole body).

As soon as I come off this prop, my back ache is gone. ✨
