Talking about death and dying isn’t always easy. It’s something many of us avoid, or don’t quite know how to begin.
But next week (4–10 May) is Dying Matters Awareness Week. A moment to gently open up those conversations.
This year’s theme, Let’s Talk About Death and Dying, is a simple invitation. Because while it can feel difficult, we know that not talking can make things harder. Many people bottle things up or struggle to find the words and that can leave them feeling more alone when it matters most.
At St Catherine’s, we see every day how powerful these conversations can be. They help people feel heard, understood, and supported.
Throughout the week, we’ll be spending time in the community, hosting GraveTalk sessions, sharing reflections from our team, and creating space for people to come together, talk, and listen.
Because death, dying and grief touch us all. And sometimes, starting the conversation is the most important step.
So this week, if you can, take a moment to talk. With a friend, a family member, or someone you trust. About what matters. About what you’d want. About how you feel.
Because talking about dying matters.
