📢 The NHS Accessible Information Standard is a must-follow standard for all NHS health and social care services.
They are in place to ensure that everyone gets health & care info in a format they can use and understand, alongside the right support to access these services.
That means that services should
✅ Be contactable in accessible ways (email or text, etc)
✅ Provide info in formats individuals can use (audio, braille, easy read, large print)
✅ Have communication support at appointments (example: a BSL interpreter)
✅ Have help on hand to communicate (example: lip-reading, using hearing aids)
✅ Provide a complaints procedure that meets different communication needs
❗Even though the standards have been in place since 2016, some disabled people and those with sensory needs are still not having their needs met by services.
