📢 The NHS Accessible Information Standard is a must-follow standard for all NHS health and social care services.

They are in place to ensure that everyone gets health & care info in a format they can use and understand, alongside the right support to access these services.

That means that services should
✅ Be contactable in accessible ways (email or text, etc)
✅ Provide info in formats individuals can use (audio, braille, easy read, large print)
✅ Have communication support at appointments (example: a BSL interpreter)
✅ Have help on hand to communicate (example: lip-reading, using hearing aids)
✅ Provide a complaints procedure that meets different communication needs

❗Even though the standards have been in place since 2016, some disabled people and those with sensory needs are still not having their needs met by services.

Ever struggled to get health or care information in a format you can actually use?

That’s where the Accessible Information Standard (AIS) comes in.

It’s the law that makes sure people with disabilities, sensory loss or communication needs aren’t left behind.

Got an experience to share? We’d love to hear it.
