**How long does a CT or MRI scan take?**

It’s one of the most common questions we’re asked by veterinary professionals and an important consideration when planning your imaging workflows?.

CT scan: Approximately 15 minutes per patient*
Used for effective imaging of bones and soft tissue

MRI scan: Approximately 45–60 minutes per patient*
Used for detailed assessment of neurological and spinal cases

(*Timings are approximate and dependent case complexity)

These key differences guide modality selection, scheduling, and patient management.

If you’re exploring how CT or MRI could enhance your diagnostic services, our team is here to guide you through the options.

Last October, our mobile CT scanner visited The Big Cat Sanctuary to provide advanced imaging for "Luca," the Amur tiger, "Django," the clouded leopard, and "Mo," the cheetah.

The outcomes of those scans are now helping to guide ongoing treatment, welfare, and long-term care plans for each of these remarkable cats.

We are incredibly proud to see how our diagnostic CT imaging service has played such an important role in both conservation and clinical care, providing detailed insights that support the long-term well-being of these extraordinary animals.

Every scan tells a story. Each one supporting wildlife care and conservation.

Advanced CT and MRI imaging helps reveal what can’t be seen, supporting clinical decisions across a wide range of species.

Using the Burgess Diagnostics mobile imaging service means that scanning can take place on site, within familiar environments. This ensures quick and efficient scanning, reducing patient stress and allowing veterinary teams to maintain continuity of care.

If you’d like to explore how advanced imaging could benefit the animals in your team’s care, we’re here to help.

Are you curious what it is like to be on board one of our mobile CT scanners for the day?

Watch this detailed insight into our mobile CT session at Banham Zoo, in Norfolk, last Friday.

It was an absolute honour for us to support their team in scanning many of their wild residents. Meet 'Mishka’, the Amur tiger, ‘Tana’, the cheetah, ‘Arlo’ the two-toed sloth and ‘Foster’ the Rüppell’s griffon vulture. Each scan was carefully planned and tailored to the individual needs of the animal.

The CT scans supported both routine health checks and the investigation of specific clinical concerns, providing detailed insight that can be difficult to achieve through other diagnostic methods alone.

We wish all the animals the very best for the future!
