Chinese New Year – Wednesday 29th January 2025

We welcome the Year of the Wood Snake. In Chinese astrology, the Wood Snake symbolises wisdom, transformation, adaptability, and grounded growth.

If we can align with the snake’s innate sensitivity, intuition, and grace, 2025 promises to be a good year to reflect on the past and embrace inner wisdom.

People born in the Year of the Snake are said to be wise, intuitive, and charming, and to have a deep understanding of people and situations.

This week we will practice some exercises to say farewell to the year of the Dragon, and some snake qigong to welcome the year of the Snake.

Long-Term Tai Chi for Parkinson's Patients May Improve Cognition

Tai chi (and qigong) eased non-motor symptoms in patients in a yearlong trial in China. The researchers also noted that tai chi is safe for Parkinson's patients.

Long-term practice of tai chi for Parkinson's led to less daytime sleepiness at six months, and improved cognition at one year for patients.

On Wednesday mornings in June and July, the online sessions are exploring seated qigong including the eight brocades of Li Ching-Yun.
Seated qigong is beneficial to those of limited mobility, persons recovering from operations or those who lack energy or suffer from chronic fatigue. For the able bodied, by being seated, there is greater work on the spine, improving flexibility, the immune system and overall health. Those who wish, can perform the sets standing.
