Here are five things to try as we gently ease ourselves into 2026, and embrace (or endure, at least!) the darker months:

* Take a moment to notice and, if you can, appreciate the ambience of the darker evenings indoors - dim lights, light a candle. Take a peak outside at the moon or an evening stroll to see the stars and the street lights twinkling.

* Cook with seasonal ingredients - mushrooms, roots, squash, apples and cabbage.

* Create consistent habits each day to find a wintry rhythm and flow - reading, journaling, walking, mindfulness.

* Enjoy a moment of solitude and/or silence.

* Take the chance to absorb at least half an hour of natural daylight each day.

* Consider trying a new meditation app I discovered over the holidays (temporarily free, while still in development by the London Buddhist Centre) - BuddhaMind - Apps on Google Play

In the new six-week course (beginning Monday 12th January 2026) we shall be enjoying the cornerstones of teaching from the school of Dru Yoga. Movement for our living spines - every movement coming from somewhere and going somewhere. The art of stillness (after the often-busy Christmastime) - anchoring our energy into the new year. Creating a sense of purpose and motivation - in order to re-energise and re-vitalise body and mind. And, last but not least, sharing some embodied breath practice - to create presence and hold space for ourselves in the now.

Martin Heath Hall, Lichfield 10.30-11.30. £56 pre-payment or drop-in £10 per class. DM for more information or to book your place.

"There are moments when it seems like the days are running together and there are also those days where you feel like you're running out of time. There are times when you try to imagine what it will finally look like to take that deep breath upon arriving at a particular point on a journey, and there are other times when you wonder what are you actually waiting for?..

For all that you are waiting for, peaceful moments are waiting for you, and for all that you do not know I hope you can give yourself permission to go in search of them. Who says you can't be a seeker while you wait? Who says, on life's long journey, you can't experience flickers of delight along the way?"

I often think the best way to describe yoga is the practice of dropping into the body and into the breath... and gradually doing so more deeply, more completely with such a practice. We can do this by moving - both physically, and also by shifting energy within our bodies. We are at our healthiest when we are moving and breathing better... stretching, flexing, and circulating energy within ourselves. This boosts circulation itself, as well as improving coordination, balance, concentration and, of course, mood. Energy is the basic building block of all this, and when it is freely flowing in our systems it can positively impact our focus, our relationships, and our overall sense of wellbeing.

Join me over the next 7 weeks on a practice to help break up those energy blocks, breathe better, and improve your mood considerably. Drop into your body and your breath to feel more present and in your own unique flow.

Dates (weekly): Monday 3rd November - Monday 15th December 2025
10.30-11.30 am at Martin Heath Hall in Lichfield.
DM me for more information or to book your place - beginners welcome.

Our Story

Are you ready to slow down, relieve tension and take some time out for yourself? And to stretch, strengthen and tone every part of your body? Blissful Yoga could be just the exercise and relaxation routine you’ve been looking for. It calls upon the principles of mindfulness and pranayama to unblock energy in the body, ease back pain and improve posture.

Blissful Flow is based on Dru Yoga’s positive health and well being – a wonderful and therapeutic approach that allows you to nourish your body, mind and soul in a safe, fun way. Each class is non-competitive and designed to be accessible to all ages and abilities, with postures and sequences that can be easily adapted to ensure that each student feels included, empowered and accepted.

Blissful Yang. Experience the beauty of combining breath and movement. This class is designed to compliment Blissfu Yin and activate your body and balance the energy with a slow Hatha-based Yang flow.

Blissful Yin focuses on gaining a powerful release by working with ligaments, joints and muscles and the body's deep connective tissue in order to help open and unblock energy. Each Yin class begins by centring and relaxing the mind with a short pranayama. The Yin postures, which are longer held floor based poses (usually around 3-5 mins) compliment a more active practice or sports regime. Improving flexibility, reducing stress, improving joint mobility, increasing circulation and the flow of energy through the body are just some of the benefits. Each session completes with a short Yoga Nidra to allow the body to absorb the benefits of this wonderful practice.
