So, I ordered the Spirit Keeper's Tarot. I feel a little guilty because it is quite spendy, but anyone booking in for a reading with me will see this gorgeous deck when it arrives in late spring.
What I hadn't really appreciated until I sent my order in was the level of extras than Benebell sends out. I am used to most decks coming with a book of basic meanings and artist intentions when designing the deck. It is a great addition to a deck if you are a tarot beginner, or if the deck you have purchased is sufficiently different from a standard Rider-Waite-Smith deck to make it necessary. I am currently doing a journalling exercise with my copy of "The Wildwood Tarot" which is significantly different in both design, archetypes and meanings to make a guidebook essential.
So, I was expecting a guidebook with the SKT deck. Ms. Wen mentions the "Little White Book" booklet. Having read my "We've got your order and here are the details" email, I can say that the "booklet" is 80 pages. Hardly a "booklet". I was very happy about this. Then I read on a bit further.
I also get a PDF of the full guidebook. 700 pages of content. 700 FREAKING PAGES! This covers all the esoteric content of the cards, including Hermetic Qabalah, numerology, astrology and I Ching, and addressing both Western and Eastern gnosticism. I'm very glad she is not sending this out as a pre-printed book as I dread to think what the cost of shipping abroad would be...
Having read all this and thinking, "Blimey, that's a huge book with more content than I could have possibly hoped for!", my email pinged again with a second notification.
It was the PDFs for the SKT "Book of Readings" and journalling prompts. 408 pages.
This may have been a bit spendy, but that's a LOT of content and value right there. I'm thrilled!
Oh, and apparently, there's a password to a private video series of teaching guides as well.
I apologise, as I may be a huge bore about this for a long time - the journalling process is apparently 6 months from beginning to end. I CAN'T WAIT! (But she says to wait until we've got the cards in our hands....)
