Who are we?

Hello, I’m Lois, and here is a little bit about me.

After many years working in the public sector, I decided a few years ago to take early retirement. This gave me the opportunity to explore a developing passion – Herbal Medicine.

I have always grown herbs in the garden, along with vegetables – mainly those usually used for culinary purposes. I had not at first realised their therapeutic potential, though I had always been an advocate for holistic health, wellbeing and nutrition. Then about 10 years ago I saw an advert for herbal workshops run by a qualified herbalist. This included a herbal walk, which completely opened my eyes to the abundance of nature – providing us with beneficial plants everywhere. These were the very same plants that I had been weeding up for years. Hooked immediately, I continued with regular workshops until recently, even after starting the B.Sc Honours degree in Herbal Medicine at Lincoln University.

One of the reasons I signed up to do the degree was because although I was proficient at making products from herbs and plant identification – I needed to know why they worked and more about their complex properties. I completed the degree course on a part time basis which allowed me the space to attend additional conferences and seminars, plus running our own workshops etc. This builds on my previous work experience which includes facilitating staff workshops, though on very different subjects. I have now been running my own herbal workshops for several years, and one of the things I so enjoy, is passing on knowledge and enthusiasm about herbal health, so that more people can get the benefits for themselves and their families.
