🧠💬 "When will my baby recognise their name?"
It’s a question lots of parents ask—and the answer might surprise you!

👶 According to Speech and Language Therapist Janet Cooper, babies typically begin to recognise their first names between 7 and 9 months. It’s all about repetition, intonation, and the magic of meaningful interaction.

🗣️ Using your baby's name often (even when they’re not facing you), adding it into songs, or swapping in their name during turn-taking games (“my turn, Jovie’s turn!”) all helps them learn that this word is theirs—a key part of their growing identity 💛

👋 Hi, I’m Emmalee – your TinyTalk Lincoln teacher!

I began my TinyTalk journey in April and have absolutely loved every minute of it. After becoming a mum, I wanted a career that gave me a better work-life balance and the flexibility to fit around my children — and TinyTalk fits perfectly. Plus, I get to bring my little boy Jonny (who’s now 1 and loves signing “milk” 🍼) along with me to class each week, which is such a joy!

But it’s more than just a job for me. I wanted to do something truly meaningful — and supporting parents on their baby signing journey feels exactly that. Helping families connect and communicate in those precious early years is incredibly rewarding 💛

Here are a few fun facts about baby signing that still amaze me:

✨ Babies can often understand and sign before they speak — sometimes as early as 6 months old!
🧠 Signing actually supports and boosts speech development — it doesn’t replace talking, it encourages it.
