A little hello from me this morning

Taking a little break from working on my October accounts to check in and share a little thought or too!

Thank you to everyone for their kind messages, compassionate responses, cards and gifts while I have been off work recovering from an abdominal hysterectomy

Gentle steps into getting back to living in this new phase of life.

I am delighted for my wonderful CFT mentor, coach and friend Dr Hayley D Quinn on the arrival of her book. Preorders are open on 18th November and I can't wait to purchase it. It’s here, the very first copy of Hayley's debut book From Self-Neglect to Self-Compassion: A compassionate guide to creating a thriving life.
I am honoured to have a little bit of my story features in Hayley's book πŸ’œ

I am taking some leave of absence in October after my surgery on Monday.

Everything went well and I got back home recovering from the surgery. It will take as long as it takes to heal and gain strength to return to work.

I am being well cared for by family and friends

Thank you for all your supportive well wishes

There will be any mindfulness and meditation practices in my healing process as I know these support my nervous system.

Resting at home will be my priority focus and gentle walks to keep my body healing.

I got my hair cut to make showering easier in my recovery. It can be little changes that can be so helpful.

I have some new jigsaws ready for when I need some stimulation, however managing pain and discomfort, sleeping and working the general anaesthetic out my system are an important part of healing right now.

I will be back in touch when I am ready to return to work. Thank you for everyone's patience and understanding πŸŒ³πŸ’šπŸŒ³

Thank you to all the supportive and dedicated staff in theatre and on Branston ward at Lincoln County Hospital for showing great care in their patients well being and recovery. Special thanks to staff nurse Julie for working so hard to discharge me safely so I could get home back to sleeping in my own bed

In such a busy world we live in, there isn't much focus in society on the value of making time for doing nothing.

From the perspective of supporting our nervous system, it's absolutely valued. The more time we rest contently, we heal and release, and we bring ease and gentleness to our bodies and minds.

So time doing nothing is never wasted when you understand and see the importance of resting and digesting in recovery of being busy.

My Big Panda 🐼 little dragon πŸ‰ cards are a useful guide for me intuitively in reminding me what is needed and I will choose to carve out little pockets of rest today between my client work πŸ’šπŸŒ³πŸ’š

Choices ~ can we feel grateful for the choices we give ourselves

I chose to return to the Dawber garden today at The Lawns because I enjoyed a playful mindfulness practice there yesterday.

I was meeting a colleague for lunch at Stokes so I chose to leave home early to give myself a slow mindfulness sensory walk and sit in nature. Something I am often recommending to my clients and supervisee's.

Nurturing yourself in nature can be a wonderful choice to settle your nervous system and the sunshine, blue sky and calmness did wonders for my mind, body and soul today.

I have struggled with the seasonal changes for many years, however mindfulness practices have made a huge difference in the way I feel into the changes of seasons.

I no longer dread the arrival of autumn because it is such stunning rays of colours in nature.

I no longer 'hate' winter because it's the time for slowing down and getting cosy and winter walks can feel crisp and fresh with moments of noticing the patterns in ice, spider webs, and plants.

Its not as easy getting outdoors in winter but I am soaking up as much as πŸ‚ autumn as I can while I am able to choose to get out and about before taking some leave of absence in October for surgery.

What a wonderful day had by all participates attending The Lincoln Wellbeing Day Retreat hosted by Sands .skills4life and Will Crawford.

Here is a small group of us feeling so happy and connectioned as we attend Sand's Tuesday Fortnightly Mindfulness Group online. However, it's the first time we have all shared the space together in person.

The day was full of powerful connections to fellow human beings, music, and nature. What a lovely venue to accommodate our retreat day. The playful mindfulness practices in the Dawber garden was so much fun and Will's music was a delightful experience although emotionally releasing, it was exactly what was needed for me yesterday to feel through my own healing journey of acceptance and insight.

I can't wait for March 2026 for the next retreat day πŸ€— thank you for all your hard work planning, organising, and attention to detail put into the whole day. πŸ™

Compassion Focused Counselling

β€˜The heart is like a garden. It can grow compassion or fear, resentment or love. What seeds will you plant there?’ - Jack Kornfield, Buddha’s Little Instruction book (1996)

During the months of experiencing the restrictions of lockdown I have returned to developing new knowledge, theory and skills through my continued professional development training in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

The intention of developing these skills further is to expand my own curiosity and creativity to establish and maintain a more compassionate way of being with the confidence to share my learning with others.

Paul Gilbert who is the founder of CFT describes compassion as;
