I am taking some leave of absence in October after my surgery on Monday.

Everything went well and I got back home recovering from the surgery. It will take as long as it takes to heal and gain strength to return to work.

I am being well cared for by family and friends

Thank you for all your supportive well wishes

There will be any mindfulness and meditation practices in my healing process as I know these support my nervous system.

Resting at home will be my priority focus and gentle walks to keep my body healing.

I got my hair cut to make showering easier in my recovery. It can be little changes that can be so helpful.

I have some new jigsaws ready for when I need some stimulation, however managing pain and discomfort, sleeping and working the general anaesthetic out my system are an important part of healing right now.

I will be back in touch when I am ready to return to work. Thank you for everyone's patience and understanding 🌳💚🌳

Thank you to all the supportive and dedicated staff in theatre and on Branston ward at Lincoln County Hospital for showing great care in their patients well being and recovery. Special thanks to staff nurse Julie for working so hard to discharge me safely so I could get home back to sleeping in my own bed

In such a busy world we live in, there isn't much focus in society on the value of making time for doing nothing.

From the perspective of supporting our nervous system, it's absolutely valued. The more time we rest contently, we heal and release, and we bring ease and gentleness to our bodies and minds.

So time doing nothing is never wasted when you understand and see the importance of resting and digesting in recovery of being busy.

My Big Panda 🐼 little dragon 🐉 cards are a useful guide for me intuitively in reminding me what is needed and I will choose to carve out little pockets of rest today between my client work 💚🌳💚

Choices ~ can we feel grateful for the choices we give ourselves

I chose to return to the Dawber garden today at The Lawns because I enjoyed a playful mindfulness practice there yesterday.

I was meeting a colleague for lunch at Stokes so I chose to leave home early to give myself a slow mindfulness sensory walk and sit in nature. Something I am often recommending to my clients and supervisee's.

Nurturing yourself in nature can be a wonderful choice to settle your nervous system and the sunshine, blue sky and calmness did wonders for my mind, body and soul today.

I have struggled with the seasonal changes for many years, however mindfulness practices have made a huge difference in the way I feel into the changes of seasons.

I no longer dread the arrival of autumn because it is such stunning rays of colours in nature.

I no longer 'hate' winter because it's the time for slowing down and getting cosy and winter walks can feel crisp and fresh with moments of noticing the patterns in ice, spider webs, and plants.

Its not as easy getting outdoors in winter but I am soaking up as much as 🍂 autumn as I can while I am able to choose to get out and about before taking some leave of absence in October for surgery.

What a wonderful day had by all participates attending The Lincoln Wellbeing Day Retreat hosted by Sands .skills4life and Will Crawford.

Here is a small group of us feeling so happy and connectioned as we attend Sand's Tuesday Fortnightly Mindfulness Group online. However, it's the first time we have all shared the space together in person.

The day was full of powerful connections to fellow human beings, music, and nature. What a lovely venue to accommodate our retreat day. The playful mindfulness practices in the Dawber garden was so much fun and Will's music was a delightful experience although emotionally releasing, it was exactly what was needed for me yesterday to feel through my own healing journey of acceptance and insight.

I can't wait for March 2026 for the next retreat day 🤗 thank you for all your hard work planning, organising, and attention to detail put into the whole day. 🙏

For anyone who is interested in learning more about compassion and trauma informed ways to support yourself, this will be a really informative workshop. I have attended some of Ann's workshops which are wonderfully paced, full of experiential experiences and resources for a great learning opportunity.

✨ This morning I joined the Compassionate Mind Foundation’s special interest group on Compassion Focused Therapy in physical health. We’re currently meeting regularly to explore different aspects of running compassion-focused groups to support people living with long-term conditions.

🌿 It’s a conversation I feel so passionate about — because Compassionate Mind Training (part of CFT) can support us all, and I’ve found it to be especially helpful when living with conditions like fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, and Long Covid.

This is one of the reasons I’ve created the 8-week Embodied Compassion series, starting 18 Oct. As this is a pilot, I’m offering it at a reduced rate in exchange for feedback and testimonials.

✨ These workshops aren’t only for people with long-term conditions — they’re open and supportive for anyone. That said, I’m also happy to run a group specifically for particular conditions, or for a mix of long-term conditions, if there’s demand.

Sharing is caring and I absolutely care about people, especially those who are struggling so much they can not see their own self worth. Their pain can feel so unbereable they feel su***de is their only way out of their internal suffering and maybe external circumstances.

I hold on to hope that people find the support they need to make sense of their thoughts and feelings, and recover from the dark place they find themselves in. I had a semi colon ; tattooed on my wrist to support the message that life doesn't have to be over.

Reach out, keep reaching out, find the one person who is willing to hear you, not judge, accept your suffering is real.

I believe that with the right support and circumstances there is a way forward. 🙏

A warm welcome to The Gentle Co page for anyone interested in being more gentle on themselves. I have been part of Joanna's gentle community for a while attending regular monthly gatherings and well as attending breathing practices, Metheringham Swim and meditations etc.

Joanna offers an abundance of ways to focus in on how to be gentle on yourself especially if you are struggling with burnout, persistent pain, overwhelming thoughts and feelings to name a few areas Joanna's able to help.

Deep respect and gratitude to and .ison.77 for their courage and strength to speak so compassionately about their experiences of Conscious Uncoupling in this podcast

Absolute credit to them both for such explicit honesty, sharing their experiences of their challenges, and how important it is for them both to make difficult choices with conscious consideration

How well they are focusing on Co-parenting with a conscious respect for everyone impacted by their journey of finding their own ways through each day of their relationship changing from marriage to friendship

My intention to share their podcast is to enable people considering or going through a separation to find time to listen to Debbie and Pete's conversations around consciously showing up, listening to and communicating the important aspects of how you can choose to face uncertainty and be compassionate to each others vulnerabilities with a deeper respect and acceptance

A precious reminder from the wonderful illustrations of

Through life events that may impact us to feel vulnerability, our tricky brains can cause us to compare and despair ourselves against others. We may get into unhelpful thinking patterns like 'we are less', than at times

That is just a thought caused by the activation of our nervous system as we respond from our threat system of anxiety, frustration, fear, or distress

Mother natures message would be ~ create and follow your own path, and you will then blossom with all your beauty

A wonderful start to the day. An early morning walk up to and around the lakes at Hanworth Country Park with my grandpuppy Coco who was loving watching the water and would have been in if she had been off the lead. Thankfully I followed the signs to keep dogs on lead while entering the park through the woodlands.

Nourishing my mind, body and soul in nature. It does bring me such a lift of energy being in nature and around water.

Compassion Focused Counselling

‘The heart is like a garden. It can grow compassion or fear, resentment or love. What seeds will you plant there?’ - Jack Kornfield, Buddha’s Little Instruction book (1996)

During the months of experiencing the restrictions of lockdown I have returned to developing new knowledge, theory and skills through my continued professional development training in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

The intention of developing these skills further is to expand my own curiosity and creativity to establish and maintain a more compassionate way of being with the confidence to share my learning with others.

Paul Gilbert who is the founder of CFT describes compassion as;
