What is a Medical Pedicure (or 'Medi Pedi') and how does it differ from a Spa Pedicure? ๐ค
๐ธ Whilst a spa pedicure is a great way to pamper your feet, and you may come away with them smelling sweet and feeling a little smoother, a spa pedicure won't reduce callus and cracked heels, remove corns or deal with any nail problems, such as thickened nails, fungal infections or ingrown nails.
๐ฃ A Medi Pedi is a medical grade pedicure, carried out in a safe and sterile environment by a trained and qualified professional. It is a complete overhaul of the feet designed to treat thick, hard skin (callus), dry cracked heels and other common foot conditions such as problem toenails, corns, and fungal infections.
๐ทAnother considerable difference between a Medi Pedi and traditional pedicure is the adherence to strict hygiene standards. As a foot health practitioner I am held to strict standards of infection control. All of my instruments are sterilised immediately after use using an ultrasonic cleaner and then an autoclave to ensure complete destruction of any disease-carrying micro-organisms. Spa pedicures are not held to these same regulatory standards and there is a risk of infection for some people. For people who have underlying conditions such as diabetes or autoimmune diseases, medical pedicures are the safest option as there is minimal risk of cuts or infections, which could compromise their health.

๐ป Many people go for a spa pedicure to have nail polish applied and this is where I differ from a standard Chiropody treatment. I like to also focus on toenail health and appearance, nails are cut, shaped and re-hydrated with an option of Dr.'s Remedy nail polish (podiatrist approved polish). The treatment is completed with an indulgent foot massage using Gehwol foot creams leaving your feet not only looking fabulous but feeling revitalised and rejuvenated
