🎉🔔Exciting announcement! 🔔 🎉

Our friends at the Equine Grass Sickness Fund have launched a new Weather Risk Alert System where you can sign up to receive free WhatsApp messages based on the risk in your local area.

Extensive research has shown that certain weather conditions lead to higher cases of Equine Grass Sickness and linking this to real time weather forecasts has allowed for risk alerts to be sent directly to owners across the UK. Having these alerts is a great tool to help prevent this awful disease that sadly has a fatality rate of 80%.

Sign up here👉https://www.grasssickness.org.uk/equine-grass-sickness-weather-risk-alert-system/

As British Summertime comes to a close this weekend, many of us, and our horses, will be adjusting to new routines as the winter months roll in❄️🐴

Changes in feed, turnout and stabling are often part of this seasonal shift, but sudden changes in management can increase the risk of colic.

To help reduce that risk, it’s important to make any changes gradually and keep a close eye on your horse’s health and habits. Here are a few practical steps:

🔄 Introduce any changes to feed or management slowly over 10–14 days
🍽️ Monitor your horse’s eating, drinking and droppings daily
👥 Make sure anyone caring for your horse knows the routine
📝 Complete an emergency care plan - it’s a helpful way to be prepared should the unexpected happen

What is autism?

Autism is a neurodivergence that influences how people experience and interact with the world. It is lifelong and would be considered a disability under the Equality Act 2010, however not all autistic people might consider themselves as disabled.

An autistic person may feel things and react to them differently to non-autistic people for example autistic people can be much more or less sensitive than non-autistic people to the five main senses (sight, sound, touch, taste and smell) but there are a range of autistic traits.
➡️To learn more, please go to the National Autistic Society https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/what-is-autism

🌻BRC can offer reasonable adjustments to autistic people such as but not limited to the following:
• Commanders for dressage and show jumping
• Changes to dress such as wearing a polo shirt instead of competition dress to aid with sensory issues
• Consideration to competition times where possible
• Support personnel to be led into a competition ring/arena until they are indicated to start by the judge

To apply for a reasonable adjustment please fill in the form found on the BRC Downloads page under the header Reasonable Adjustments https://www.bhs.org.uk/british-riding-clubs/competitions/brc-downloads/ and let us know what will help you take part in BRC activities 💙
