Booking your first counselling session can be very daunting. Some of my clients have said they weren’t quite sure what to expect and were very nervous beforehand.
Your first session with me will be different from future visits. The initial visit is a period for you and me to get to know each other and get an idea of how to structure sessions.
At the first session:
☑️ I welcome you to the session and talk you through the contract. This involves explaining how I work, what I expect from you re: attendance, cancellations etc and explain the confidentiality policy and also what you can expect from me
☑️ I ask you what has brought you to therapy and if you have any particular goals (you don’t have to have any goals, that’s equally as important to tell me)
☑️ I explain to you about my style as a therapist and how I work
☑️ And then we chat about anything you want to bring to the first session
We have to complete some paperwork that’s for safeguarding and our safety, I will make notes during this first session to help me understand what is going on for you.
You can ask me as many questions as you want, or have a think and let me know for the next session. We will then confirm what times and days you will be attending and that’s that.
Ping me over a question now if you’re interested in starting counselling with me 🩵💚
