🧩 Autism Awareness Month (April)

During Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month, therapies like reflexology are sometimes discussed in the context of:

+ Supporting wellbeing and relaxation
+ Encouraging holistic approaches tailored to individuals
+ A complement, not a replacement for therapies or support
+ Consent and comfort are essential if the person enjoys or tolerates touch

1. 26 bones in each foot

Each foot contains 26 bones, working together to support balance and movement. That’s over a quarter of all the bones in the body in such a small space.

2. Born mostly as cartilage

At birth, many foot bones are still soft and flexible. They gradually harden over time, shaped by movement, touch, and everyday experiences.

3. 100+ muscles, tendons & ligaments

Little feet are incredibly complex. Muscles, tendons, and ligaments work together to stabilise the body and support every step your child takes.

4. Feet connect to the brain

Feet are rich in sensory receptors, constantly sending messages to the brain. This helps children develop balance, coordination, and body awareness.

5. Arches develop over time

Flat-looking feet in babies are completely normal. Arches form naturally as muscles strengthen through crawling, standing, and walking.

6. Full of nerve endings

The soles of the feet are highly sensitive. This sensitivity helps children explore textures, surfaces, and their environment.

7. Movement shapes development

Every kick, crawl, and step helps build strength and alignment. Movement is key to healthy foot development and overall growth.

🌈🌈🌈

Gentle touch and connection through the feet can support calm, helping little bodies settle and feel safe.

Being a teenager now is a lot.

There’s constant input - school, expectations, screens, friendships, pressure to figure things out - often all happening at once, and rarely with much space to switch off. It’s not surprising that sleep can feel off, energy can dip, and emotions can feel all over the place.

Reflexology offers something simple but often missing. A chance to pause.

By encouraging the body to slow down and step out of that constant “on” mode, reflexology may help support better rest, improved focus, and a greater sense of balance. It’s not about fixing anything or having all the answers, but about giving the nervous system a break and allowing the body to reset.

For many teens, it’s one of the few times they’re not being asked to perform, respond, or keep up. Just to be.

And sometimes, that’s exactly what’s needed.
