Advance Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic

Advance Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic We are a private physiotherapy and sports injury clinic in the Lisburn area just south of Belfast, N

Our practice, based in the City of Lisburn, County Antrim in Northern Ireland and formerly known as The Back Shop, was established in 1992 by Patricia McCarroll BSc (Hons) MCSP. Enjoying continuous growth as a result of numerous satisfied clients, the clinic is currently staffed by four chartered physiotherapists, each with expertise in varying specialties and fully registered with the Health Professionals Council. Physiotherapy is about reducing pain and therefore helping the body to function normally. Physiotherapists treat people with physical difficulties resulting from illness, injury, disability or ageing. Physiotherapists treat problems in joints, discs, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Before you receive treatment one of our Chartered Physiotherapists will discuss your condition, carefully examine the area and provide you with an accurate diagnosis. From this we will agree a treatment programme tailored to your needs. We treat musculoskeletal pain in all parts of the body, such as back and neck pain, whiplash and headaches. Arthritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and sports injuries. Find us on WhatClinic, BUPA FINDER, Google Business/ Maps and our new website www.advancephysio.biz

⭐️ Hypermobility or Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder is characterised by increased flexibility in the joints and laxity in ligaments. This can be an entirely normal finding during a medical examination or assessment.

⭐️ Hypermobility can cause symptoms such as difficulty walking longer distances, flat feet, ‘clumsiness’ and pain.

⭐️ If you have concerns that your child may be complaining of pain or difficulties due to increased movement at their joints, seeing a Paediatric Physiotherapist can help 🙌🏼

⭐️ A physiotherapist can help advise on exercises, sports and pacing to help overcome and manage symptoms.

🦶🏼 Flat feet are a common condition where the arch of the foot appears to flatten when standing.

🦶🏼 Flat feet with no symptoms are generally nothing to worry about.

🦶🏼 If your child has flat feet and is complaining of foot, ankle or knee pain, seeing a Paediatric Physiotherapist or Podiatrist can be beneficial.

🦶🏼 A simple check you can do is to get your child to go up on their tip-toes and check if their foot arch forms.

🦶🏼 Any concerns, please get in touch!

You may notice that your child has a certain walking pattern and may wonder if this is OK. Most of the time this is perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned about, but there are some cases where having an assessment by a Paediatric Physiotherapist is beneficial.

🦶🏼 Persistent Tip Toe Walking - if you notice your child up on their toes the majority of the time it can be worthwhile exploring why. They may also benefit from stretches and exercises.

🦶🏼 A One Sided Problem - if you notice your child is doing something different on one side e.g. turning their foot in or limping, an assessment is recommended. Depending on the situation you may seek medical input first.

🦶🏼 Pain - if your child complains of pain when walking, a Paediatric Physiotherapist can help assess why this is the case, and offer advice and input.

🦶🏼 In-Toeing - mild in-toeing is generally something not to be concerned about. If you feel your child has significant in-toeing, is complaining of pain or their in-toeing is holding them back from participating in activities then an assessment would be beneficial.

There are lots of ‘mini skills’ you will see before those first steps happen, and the important thing is seeing that these mini skills are progressing.

🦶🏼Your little mover will first start by pulling to stand. This can start by your little one coming on to their knees at a lower surface, then pulling to stand on furniture or at your legs.

🦶🏼When they feel confident they will then start cruising. The next step would be pushing a push-a-long toy, or holding your hands, and before you know it they will be taking their magical first steps!

Shoulder pain is one of the most common issues we see in the clinic, affecting athletes, office workers, and weekend warriors alike. Whether it’s a dull ache or sharp discomfort, here are some common causes and tips to help:
