This Christmas, the festive lights aren’t just for decoration — they’re a spotlight on children who feel unseen.

Many young people in Northern Ireland are living with hidden harm — the impact of parental substance use or mental-health issues. For these children, the things that would shock others feel completely ordinary. They don’t know their lives are different; to them, making their own dinner aged 7 or tiptoeing around someone’s mood is simply their reality.

These aren’t stories that make the headlines, but they shape daily life — and research shows that 1 in 4 children in Northern Ireland are affected.

This Christmas, we’re asking schools, clubs and organisations to help change that narrative.
When you host a festive fundraiser for ASCERT, you’re helping build a new normal — one where local children feel safe, supported and valued.

Getting involved is simple:
• Register your school, organisation or club
• Choose a fun festive fundraising activity
• Share your plans with us and help ensure every young person gets the support they deserve

Let’s make this Christmas about creating new normals.
