Two years ago the funeral planning company Safe Hands Ltd (how ironic) collapsed leaving some 46,000 people without any cover for their funeral arrangement which they had paid into a fund towards future funeral costs. Its collapse meant pre-paid funerals may not be honoured and some people had paid in instalments up to £4,000. The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) said it was investigating a suspected fraud at the company and its parent, SHP Capital Holdings Ltd.
The simple answer to avoid this happening to you is to ask a funeral director about funeral planning. After all we actually carry out the arrangements and are pretty good at it. Independent funeral directors unlike financial institutions are more interested in providing you with a “plan for your funeral” that caters for your families financial situation. We can give you plenty of options that will cater for your financial situation even if that means that you simply want to get some advice, discuss your arrangements and write them down for your family without having to put money into a plan.
If however you are in the situation where you have some capital to invest into a funeral plan we would like to put your mind at rest. Our pre-paid funeral plans are provided by a trusted national provider, Ecclesiastical Planning Services. We have every confidence in our partnership which over the years has proven to be fully supportive of our ethics and the way we look after families. They allow us to provide you with a funeral plan that can be trusted and as mentioned have been alongside us during FCA regulation and continue to provide us with up to date training.
