Cases of invasive meningococcal disease (MenB) have been confirmed in Kent. UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is running a targeted MenB vaccination programme only for students living in halls at the University of Kent. This is not a wider public programme at this time.

UKHSA has said the programme may expand as they continue to assess the situation, but no broader rollout has yet been announced.

If you’ve been advised to check your vaccination history (e.g., by a university), you can view your past vaccines via the NHS App under your GP health record.

NOTICE: We are not currently able to offer MenB vaccinations unless national guidance changes.

It's important to know the signs of symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia. Get more info from http://nhs.uk/conditions/meningitis

We’ll keep you updated as guidance develops.

📍 Location update for tomorrow’s Question and Answer event

To help accommodate more people, tomorrow’s event has been moved to the Workshed, just behind the practice (The Workshed Cattle Market, Fairpark Rd, Liskeard PL14 4BA).

The space can hold up to 16 people at a time, so we kindly ask attendees to stagger their arrival where possible. This will help reduce waiting times, as it may be cold if you need to wait outside.

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to welcoming you tomorrow.

🎄 Advent Day 23 🎄

💊 Antibiotics: Use Them Wisely – Here’s Why 💊

Antibiotics do NOT work for viral infections like colds, flu, most coughs, or sore throats. They only treat bacterial infections. Misusing antibiotics can cause serious problems:

✅ Antibiotic resistance – Every year, around 65,000 people in the UK develop infections that are resistant to antibiotics.
✅ Global impact – By 2050, antibiotic resistance could cause 10 million deaths worldwide annually if we don’t act now.
✅ Side effects – Taking antibiotics unnecessarily can lead to diarrhoea, nausea, and allergic reactions.

Why does this matter?
When antibiotics are overused, bacteria adapt and become resistant. This means infections become harder to treat, and life-saving medicines stop working.
What should you do?

Trust your GP or pharmacist – they’ll only prescribe antibiotics if you really need them.
Never share antibiotics or use leftovers.
Complete the full course if prescribed.

Together, we can protect antibiotics for future generations. 💙

🎄 Advent Day 19

Feeling Low This Festive Season? NHS Talking Therapies Can Help 🎄

The holidays aren’t easy for everyone. While many look forward to celebrations, 1 in 6 adults experience anxiety or depression, and research shows over 35% feel lower during autumn and winter. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) alone affects around 2 million people in the UK.

You don’t need a GP referral – you can refer yourself directly to NHS Talking Therapies.

Talking therapies can help you manage stress, anxiety, and low mood before they become overwhelming.

✨ Why act now?

SAD can cause fatigue, loss of interest, and difficulty concentrating.
Early support can prevent symptoms from worsening and improve wellbeing.

✅ Take the first step today:
📱 Visit NHS Talking Therapies to start your self-referral. https://www.nhs.uk/tests-and-treatments/talking-therapies/

💙 This Christmas, give yourself the gift of support. You’re not alone.
