12 months since leaving my job as a Sales Manager - where has that time gone!

So much has changed in the last year, since leaving corporate. I now coach everyday and love every minute of it ❤️. However the biggest change has been in myself …. Life can be one long balancing act, with so many tabs open in our mind at once - it’s no wonder that many people are experiencing brain fog and constant fatigue!

When our outer world is chaotic then our nervous system picks up signals of danger and sends our inner state into fight/flight or freeze. This is where disrupted digestion, sleep, hormones and brain fog occur. We are not giving our bodies time to heal and repair.

Although you may not believe it, we do have influence over the outer chaos. We can bring in signals of safety and connection to our nervous system, so that it conducts our inner world from a place of balance and calm.

From that place, everything changes AND we have the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at us.

Could brain fog be a way of your nervous system protecting you from overwhelm and chronic stress?

Maybe you’ve been running at high speed for so long that its become your default mode. It’s like you can’t slow down and if you do stop your thoughts make it hard to relax, especially at night.

Eventually physical symptoms arise that you push through - headaches, fatigue, aching joints, digestive issues.... The more you push through the louder and stronger the symptoms get!

Perhaps brain fog is protecting you from overloading yourself further, shutting down some of the tabs in your brain, giving you signals to slow down.....

Brain fog can actually be a symptom of being in fight/flight too long and your body is preparing for a freeze/shutdown state. When you look at it this way, it does make sense. Our nervous systems are operating to keep us safe at all times - so yes brain fog is a protective factor.

I recently worked with a woman whose exhaustion and physical pain had become so severe that she’d been unable to work for six months. She realised she was caught in a recurring “boom and bust” cycle — during the boom phase, she would push herself relentlessly, working long hours, not taking any breaks and taking on everything she could, leaving no room for rest or self-care. Then the bust would hit: waves of fatigue, illness, and digestive issues that would completely knock her down.

This pattern had been repeating for years, but each time it took her longer to recover. Her body had been sending clear messages all along — she just hadn’t known how to listen.

Sound familiar? It did for me too. Over the years, I’ve learned that our bodies often whisper before they shout — and one of the first whispers is brain fog.

Brain fog was a real issue for me - it got to the point where I felt exhausted all the time and actually thought I was losing my mind!

It is a lived experience for me and one I was able to overcome by a lot of research, trial and error and months of trying different things (a lot of what didn’t work)!

That is why I am hosting a free Zoom workshop on the 8th November, 1pm-2:30pm GMT, so I can share what has worked for me and many of my clients. Many of my clients reach out to me due to concerns around brain fog and impact this is having across all areas of their lives. From personal experience and lots of research, I learnt that chronic stress; pushing through when exhausted; ignoring physical signs: doing everything yourself and not asking for help, all has a negative impact on our thought processes and nervous system. Sometimes these symptoms can be so debilitating that we have no choice but to slow down!

My passion is improving mental health not just today but every day 💚.

Growing up in the 70’s I experienced the ‘stigma’ of mental illness in my family, as well as anxiety I experienced myself but didn’t talk about to anyone until I was in my 50’s. I am glad that we are becoming more open to talking about mental illness but there is still a long way to go.

Do you recognise any of these signs of exhaustion?
💭 Brain fog
💭 Difficulty making decisions
💭 Feeling detached or defeated
💭 Irritability or overwhelm

If so, your body might be signalling that it’s been in survival mode for too long.

This is what happens when your nervous system is stuck in a cycle of doing, coping, and pushing through.
