Somatics

Somatics is a way of moving that helps you return your muscles to their natural resting length. It is a highly effective way of addressing long held tension and pain. Muscles don’t work on their own. This is obvious. Your brain makes your muscles move via your nervous system. So if you want to change your posture and relieve your aches and pains you need to change the messages your brain is sending to your muscles.

Simple movements called “pandiculations” teach your brain to become aware of muscles that you are continually contracting without knowing it. Pandiculations are contractions of particular muscles that you then slowly release. It is in the slow release that the brain learns the new sensory information it needs to regain control over the muscle. Over time you get better and better at controlling your somatic nervous system, helping you to move with less effort and more freedom.
