PAUSE is a dialectial behavioral therapy (DBT) technique that can be used to help manage strong emotions.

It stands for:

P: pause everything you are doing as soon as you notice symptoms of anxiety or another mental illness
A: do an activity that brings you calm
U: understand you are in the present, and you are safe
S: soothe yourself with the butterfly hug or another technique
E: breathe out for 3 seconds and sigh in release
