1st St Neots Scouts – Weekend Hike & Camp Summary
With Storm Claudia looming over the weekend, the 1st St Neots Scouts weren’t sure if their hiking trip would go ahead. Thankfully, the only thing the weather managed to change was the Friday night camping plans — everything else went ahead as planned!
Despite a damp and chilly couple of days, the Scouts did themselves incredibly proud. Everyone who saw them out and about commented on how well-behaved and responsible they were, especially around dogs. Huge well done, Scouts!
This hike wasn’t just an adventure — it was a challenge with purpose. The Scouts took it on to raise money for one of their leaders who is currently undergoing treatment for Grade 4 Glioblastoma brain cancer. Their determination, spirit, and teamwork meant a lot more because of the cause behind it.
And the impact? 1st St Neots Scout Group have now raised over £2,000! It all began with a fantastic fundraising Oktoberfest event, followed by this hiking challenge — and that’s not even counting the generous contributions from parents and leaders.
The family that is Scouting is truly one that stands together.
Nine Scouts and two Young Leaders set out in two teams to navigate and hike around Paxton Lakes. After 9 miles, countless puddles, and plenty of soggy socks, they returned to camp with big smiles and an even bigger appetite.
Back at base, the Scouts relaxed, helped prepare dinner, and then absolutely demolished a huge pot of spaghetti Bolognese.
The evening rolled into campfire fun — s’mores, marshmallows, games, and plenty of laughs.
Eventually they headed to bed… and eventually they even slept! In the morning it was breakfast, pack down, and home for a well-deserved rest.
