💡 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄?

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is one of the top 10 global public health threats according to the World Health Organisation.

When bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites become resistant to medicines, common infections become harder, and sometimes impossible to treat.

𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝘇:

1. Antibiotics kill viruses.
2. Antibiotics are effective against cold & flu.
3. Unnecessary use of antibiotics makes them become ineffective.
4. Taking antibiotics often has side effects such as diarrhoea.
5. You can share antibiotics with others.

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁?

𝗔𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀:

1: ❌False - Antibiotics only kill bacteria, not viruses like cold & flu.
2: ❌False - Cold & flu are caused by viruses, so antibiotics wont help.
3. ✔️True - Misuse of antibiotics causes resistance, making them less effective.
4. ✔️True - Antibiotics can cause side effects like diarrhoea, nausea, or thrush.
5. ❌False - Never share antibiotics with others. They may not be suitable for other people and could cause harm.

ℹ️Understanding how antibiotics work and using them correctly helps prevent resistance, keeping these life-saving medicines effective for the future.

Blue is the official colour of WAAW, chosen by the World Health Organisation to symbolise global unity in the fight against Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

When you wear blue this week, you’re helping raise awareness about one of the biggest health threats of our time.

Our PCN GP Practices have pledged to wear blue and go blue on days throughout WAAW week to send a unified message that AMR is a serious issue that needs urgent action.
