Traditionally Ashtanga Yoga classes don't use music as it could detract from the focus of the practice: an internal experience which anchors itself on the sound of the breath and sensations of the body. Music can also be contrary to Pratyahara (drawing the senses away from external distraction), one of the 8 limbs (guiding principles) of Ashtanga Yoga.
In fact yoga classes with music are a relatively recent innovation, imported from the States during the 'westernisation' of yoga.....but who needs it anyway....."Yoga is like music: the rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind, and the harmony of the soul." ❤️
