A few announcements (please read carefully):

📣 Our rescheduled Residents & Relatives meeting is taking place on Tuesday 2nd December at 2.30pm. These meetings provide an opportunity to receive the latest updates, comments and feedback. Hope to see you there!

📣 December is fast approaching! If you plan to attend our Strictly Christmas event, could you please register your interest at reception as soon as possible. Raffle tickets will be on sale soon.

📣 If possible, we'd be grateful if you could let us know whether you plan to take your loved-ones out on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. Specifically, whether they will be having their meals at Middleton Lodge, so we can cater accordingly. Thank you!

📣 Unfortunately, we're not able to accommodate relatives for Christmas dinner due to space. Instead, week commencing 15th December, we will be offering you the chance to book a Christmas Afternoon Tea with your loved-ones. £10 a head and must be booked in advance.

Thank you all for your ongoing support!

Yesterday evening, we welcomed back Derby and District Astronomical Society for yet another fascinating astronomy talk, this time taking us through the wonders of our solar system each planet at a time 🪐🌍

This sparked so much interest among residents with many of them not wanting to leave, asking question after question!

Excitement peaked when we were shown their moon globe signed by astronauts such as Buzz Aldrin who have actually walked on the moon! This also contained a real piece of moon rock - Jackie's face was a picture when she touched it, literally jumping for joy and exclaiming "I've touched the moon"!!! David started crying "happy tears" too! We certainly didn't expect such wonderful reactions, nor did society members, who left feeling thrilled that they were able to share their passion for space with so many eager listeners.

Sadly, the weather let us down, so we didn't get to try out the telescopes this time. Instead, we were shown impressive colour photographs taken by the society with their new piece of technology. However, they promised they will pop by next time there's a clear night ⭐️ so watch this space for some stargazing updates!

HUGE thank you to everyone at the society for bringing joy to our care home!

What a joyful atmosphere at our monthly Gospel Singing, with a surprise visit from local PCSOs who came by to escape the cold outside! Nothing warms the heart like the community all coming together for a good singsong - as you can see, everyone sang their hearts out ❤️

Thanks again Assemblies of the First Born Church!

As many of you are aware, Middleton Lodge is currently working through the Veteran Friendly Framework to become a 'veteran friendly care home'. As part of this process, we're keen to establish links with local military groups and charities.

Today, our Administrator and Wellbeing Coordinator popped down to MPCT North East, Stoke & Derby to treat staff and learners to delicious homemade cake 🍰

We learnt about the fantastic work of the Military Preparation College, supporting 16-19 year olds in Derby, through our Head Chef Katy who has a family connection to the training scheme, so we were eager to choose them as our worthy cause for the Cake4Kindness CIC initiative.

Speaking with Centre Manager, Ed Redgate, we found out more about the skills taught at the centre, having wide-ranging benefits for Derby's youth. We are looking forward to strengthening our relationship with the college, who'd be welcome here anytime to connect with residents over tea and more cake! ☕️

Today, Kerry-Ann and Rhiannon also attended Service Champion Training with the Armed Forces Network, increasing our awareness of the support available to members of the armed forces community residing at our home.

Mindful Moments at Middleton✨💆‍♀️

A visit from beauty therapist Andrea Bridgwater turned our home into a mini spa for the afternoon!

Lucky Pam received a full pampering with a relaxing facial - she said she came out feeling like a new lady! Some of our other ladies experienced some hand massages and others had a go at making their own rejuvenating face masks. With the smell of essential oils wafting down the corridors, even our managers couldn't resist popping in for a quick de-stressing massage - a really serene and peaceful afternoon for all!

(It was also our lovely Mary's 98th Birthday, so we all stopped to celebrate with tea and cake afterwards 🥳)

No need to fret if you couldn't make it to the demonstration; Andrea will soon be offering professional beauty treatments and manicures at our salon. For more details, please speak to reception or a member of the Wellbeing Team.

Appreciation post! ✨️

Here at Middleton Lodge, we're very grateful to our local churches: Littleover Methodist Church, St Peter's, Newmount Methodist and Jubilee Church Derby for regularly providing in-house Sunday services.

Supporting our residents spiritually, and ensuring they have the opportunity to worship God in their home, is such an important part of wellbeing for many who live here.

We also extend gratitude to Woodlands Church who come in monthly to provide 'Service & Songs', and to Littleover Baptist Church who lead us monthly in holy communion.

Special thanks to Rev'd Emma, who bought each of our residents some beautiful flowers at today's service, complete with a very appropriate Bible verse 💐 such a kind gesture, which made us all smile!
