Caring for someone with dementia who is also on blood thinners? Here’s what you need to know:

šŸ”ø Why it matters:
Blood thinners can make even small bumps or bruises more serious—especially if there’s a fall.

šŸ”ø What you can do:
āœ”ļø Keep walkways clear and well-lit
āœ”ļø Use non-slip mats and grab rails
āœ”ļø Encourage slow, steady movement
āœ”ļø Watch for signs of internal bleeding after a fall (e.g., confusion, dizziness, headache)
āœ”ļø Always seek medical advice after a head injury—even if it seems minor

šŸ’” Top Tip: Keep a list of medications handy for emergencies.

Let’s keep our loved ones safe, supported, and secure. šŸ’™

Where there is a patient in our care who may not be able to consent for themselves (such as if they have dementia) then we will ensure that the Call 4 Concern leaflet is included in the pack we give to families when their loved one first move to a ward.

Our staff are here to help. Please ask us if you have any questions about Call 4 Concern and how it works for your loved one in these circumstances.

Our staff are trained to help too.

If you feel we haven’t spotted that your loved one has additional needs or you’re concerned about the care they are receiving, please let us know. We have a dedicated and passionate safeguarding team in place who provide extra support for you and the team caring for your loved ones, to ensure that their needs are met and that the care is personalised during their hospital stay.

Your voice matters! ’sRule
