These 3 professional footballers have all suffered cardiac arrest whilst playing football.

This is horrific and traumatic not only for the player themselves but for the players on the pitch with them and anybody watching.

All 3 however were very lucky as the 1st responders reacted quickly to the situation and used a defibrillator which saved their lives. This shows the importance of having this vital equipment in the workplace.

I am very aware that not every workplace has doctors or paramedics on site, however a defibrillator can be used by anybody and studies have shown that if a defibrillator is applied within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest it can produce survival rates of 50% - 70% so it might just save someone’s life.

One of the most crucial elements of using a defibrillator when someone has a cardiac arrest is how quickly help can be administered.

The Resuscitation Council UK recommend that ideally a defibrillator should not be further away than 2 minutes brisk walk or 200m one way.

Considering that from point of acknowledging a defibrillator is required, there is only about 7 minutes to save someone’s life – so that journey time to get the defibrillator should ideally be as short as possible.

If you have a large building, consider one unit on each floor as it is not advised that the person obtaining the unit should not need to take any stairs, elevators or lifts to reach the defibrillator.

Also consider if you have any outbuildings, or any hard to access areas – would this delay the time taken to reach the defibrillator?

Alongside our serviced defibrillator unit plans, we also offer rented cabinets for internal or external use.

Whilst indoor cabinets are not essential, they do provide a level of security, a functional place to store your defibrillator and a designated permanent place for the unit to be displayed.

If you wish to place your defibrillator outside or in a colder place such as a large warehouse unit, it will need to be kept in an external cabinet with an electricity supply to preserve the battery life and ensure it remains in good working order.
