π Informational post: using private carers safely
Using a private carer? Here are a few important things to consider
Many families choose to arrange care privately rather than through a regulated provider. When doing so, itβs important to understand how care is set up and to check that appropriate arrangements are in place.
Families may wish to ask about:
β Insurance β whether appropriate insurance is in place, depending on how the care is arranged
β Training and competence β whether the carer has up-to-date training and experience relevant to the tasks they are carrying out (such as moving and handling, infection prevention and control, or medication support where applicable)
β DBS checks β whether an enhanced DBS check has been completed and is current
β Clear agreements β clarity around duties, boundaries, and what happens if care cannot be provided as planned
Asking these questions can help support safe, effective, and respectful care for everyone involved.
