The Mum Guilt After the Storm 🌀🌪️👦🏼
There’s a kind of silence that follows a meltdown — not the peaceful kind, but the heavy, aching one. The one where you sit there, drained, wondering if you did the right thing. You set the boundaries, you held your ground, you tried to guide him the way you know he needs… but still, there’s that whisper of guilt.
You remind yourself his brain works differently, that what feels like a small ask for another child can be a mountain for him. You remind yourself you’re doing your best — not out of frustration, but out of love and protection. And still, your heart aches seeing him so overwhelmed, so fragile after the storm.
You both end up exhausted — him from the fight his mind puts him through, you from the emotional tug-of-war between doing what’s best and wishing you could just make it all easier for him.
And even in that aftermath, when you sit there together — teary, tired, holding on — you know it’ll probably happen again tomorrow. Because love isn’t just soft. Sometimes it’s boundary and patience and staying even when it hurts.
Parenting is the most rewarding yet the toughest thing ever 💜
