🤯 Weird Medical Fact of the Day 🤯

Did you know…
Your stomach has to make new lining every few days?

That’s because the acid in your stomach is so strong it could damage it! Your body is clever and keeps replacing the lining to protect itself.

The human body does amazing things every day without us even noticing 💪

🤍 National Hug Day 🤍

Hugs might seem small, but they can make a big difference 💙
A hug can help us feel calmer, supported, and a little less alone.

Today is a good reminder to: 🤍 Check in on someone
🤍 Show kindness where you can
🤍 Offer a hug – or a kind word – if it feels right

Not everyone is a hugger, and that’s okay too. A smile, a chat, or a friendly “how are you?” can mean just as much.

Let’s spread a bit of kindness today 🤍

💙 Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 💙

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers – and checking your cervix (smear test) can save lives.

✔️ Cervical screening looks for early changes before cancer develops
✔️ It’s quick, free, and done by a trained nurse
✔️ If you’re aged 25–64, you may be invited for screening

We know it can feel awkward or worrying, but our team is kind, understanding, and here to support you. You can ask questions, take your time, and let us know if you’re nervous.

If you’ve had a letter and haven’t booked yet, please get in touch with us 💬
If you’re not sure when you’re due, we can check for you.

Looking after yourself matters 💙
Early checks save lives.

💙 Blue Monday – you’re not on your own 💙

Today is often called Blue Monday – a day when lots of people feel a bit low, skint after Christmas, tired of the dark days, and fed up waiting for spring. If you’re feeling flat, stressed or just not yourself, you’re not alone.

It’s okay to have off days. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. And it’s okay to ask for help.

A few small things that can help today:

Get a bit of fresh air, even if it’s just a short walk

Have a proper meal and a drink of water

Text or call someone you trust

Be kind to yourself – you’re doing the best you can

If your mood has been low for a while, or you’re struggling to cope, our team at Great Homer Street Medical Centre is here to listen and support you. You don’t have to go through it on your own.

And if you need urgent emotional support, you can call or text NHS 111, or the Samaritans on 116 123 – free, 24/7.

Take care of yourself today, Liverpool. Brighter days really are coming 💙

World Religion Day 🌍

Today is World Religion Day – a day to recognise and respect the many faiths, beliefs and traditions that make up our community.

Here in Liverpool, we’re proud to look after people from all walks of life. Whether you follow a religion, a spiritual path, or no belief at all, everyone deserves to feel welcome, respected and cared for.

Belief can be a source of comfort, strength and hope for many people, especially in hard times. For others, community, culture or personal values play that same role. All of it matters.

At Great Homer Street Medical Centre, we aim to provide care that is kind, understanding and respectful of your beliefs and needs.

Wishing peace, kindness and understanding to all today 🤍

🌟 International Mentoring Day 🌟

Today we’re celebrating the power of mentoring – and it’s something we’re really proud of here at Great Homer Street Medical Centre.

Our experienced GPs don’t just look after patients – they also help train the next generation of NHS staff. We support:

F2 doctors

ST1 and ST2 doctors

They work alongside our GPs every day, learning, growing in confidence, and building the skills they need to become brilliant future GPs. It means our patients get care from a whole team, with lots of knowledge and support behind them.

We also believe in growing our own staff. We run an admin apprenticeship scheme, and one of our brilliant HCAs actually started out as an apprentice – a great example of how opportunities and support can lead to amazing careers.

Mentoring is about more than training – it’s about encouragement, sharing experience, and helping people believe in themselves. And that’s something we’re proud to do for our staff and our community here in Liverpool.

💙 Happy International Mentoring Day from all of us at Great Homer Street Medical Centre!

🍔🥡 Fake It ‘Til You Make It (a Fakeaway!) 🥡🍕

We all love a takeaway… but having one every week can be hard on your wallet and your waistline 😅

So why not try a Fakeaway – that’s when you make your favourite takeaway-style food at home, but a bit healthier!

Think: 🍕 Homemade pizza on a wrap
🍔 Chicken burgers done in the oven or air fryer
🍛 A simple curry with chicken and veg
🍟 Oven-baked wedges instead of deep-fried chips

You still get the flavours you love – just with less salt, less fat, and more goodness 👍

Small swaps like this can really help with: ✔️ Weight
✔️ Blood pressure
✔️ Energy levels

Give it a go this week – your taste buds won’t know the difference 😉

It’s STI Q Day 💙

Today is STI Q Day – a day to get people talking about s*x, testing and staying healthy.

STI stands for s*xually transmitted infection. Lots of people get them, and most of the time they have no symptoms at all. That means you can feel totally fine but still have an infection and pass it on.

The good news?
👉 Testing is quick, easy and free
👉 Most STIs can be treated
👉 The sooner you test, the better

If you’ve had s*x with someone new, more than one partner, or just aren’t sure, it’s a good idea to get checked. There’s no shame in looking after your health.

At our GP surgery, we can help with:

STI testing

advice about contraception

condoms

worries about symptoms

Everything is confidential and we won’t judge you.

Looking after your s*xual health is just like looking after any other part of your body.
If something doesn’t feel right, get it checked.

Liverpool, look after yourselves 💙
