A message to all our patients at Great Homer Street Medical Centre following media reports that a child has died after contracting measles.

Measles is circulating in the community, and MMR vaccination rates are at levels that will not provide sufficient herd immunity. We are seeing more cases of measles in our children and young people because fewer people are having the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles and two other viruses called Mumps and Rubella. Very sadly, a child has recently died in Alder Hey Hospital from Measles related illness. Sixteen other children with Measles are ill enough to require care in Alder Hey. Whilst concerns over vaccination are understandable, no-one wants to cause harm to their children, the vaccines are safe and protect people from what is a dangerous illness.

If you or your child are not vaccinated against Measles, please contact Great Homer St MC or go to the Alder Hey AE. Both are offering the vaccinations. Help us to prevent any further deaths from Measles.

We are proud to be supporting Lungevity - a new lung health campaign for Anfield and Everton, rasing awareness about free lung cancer screening. πŸ’™

Welcome to Lungevity

A fresh new lung health campaign is here for Anfield and Everton!

Did you know lung cancer rates in our area are 37% higher than the national average? But here's the good news: early screening saves lives - and we're here to help make that easier and more approachable for everyone.

This summer, the Lungevity 🫁 campaign is hitting the streets with a vibrant 60s/70s seaside theme, complete with local roadshow events, friendly NHS staff, and support from community leaders. Its all about raising awareness, starting conversations, and helping people feel more confident about getting checked.

🎯 if you're aged 55-74 and have ever smoked (more than 100 ci******es in your lifetime), you may get a call this August/September inviting you to a free lung health check (telephone call). Its quick, simple - and it could save your life.

πŸ‘ŸCome find us at our Lungevity roadshows in July and August!
There'll be health info, helpful chats, and a bit of nostalgic fun to boot.
Let's break the fear, build trust, and breath easier - together.

πŸ“žWant more information? Speak to your GP Practice or call the Lung Cancer Screening team on 0151 254 3032.

Happy World Chocolate Day!

Yes - its a real thing, and we're not complaining. But did you know that not all chocolate is created equal?

Here at Great Homer Street Medical Centre we're all about balance. While indulging in the occasional treat is perfectly fine, choosing dark chocolate in moderation can actually have some surprising health benefits.
βœ…οΈ Rich in antioxidants
βœ…οΈ May help reduce inflammation
βœ…οΈ Can support heart health
βœ…οΈ Might even boost your mood!

That said, chocolate is still high in sugar and calories, so a little goes a long way. Enjoy today - just mind your portions and maybe skip the second bar😜

Stay healthy, stay happy and if you're treating yourself today, make it a smart choice ❀️🍫
