It is always an honour to see so many familiar faces returning to our beautiful Cathedral to remember all our loved ones. Yesterday evening was no exception.

The altar was full of special pictures, each telling their own story. Families gathering to remember and give thanks for all the love and fun shared through the years.

We must give particular thanks to our very talented singers from Their beautiful voices filling the Lady Chapel as we shared so many special names and lit candles in their memory.

I attended the Christmas Memorial Service at the Lady Chapel in Liverpool Cathedral last night to celebrate, along with other families, the life of a loved one we have lost in the past year, and was asked to place a photograph on the alter steps. Christmas carols were sang by three hugely talented young women whose voices soared sublimely to the heavens and there, at the foot of the alter the handsome face of my wonderful son smiled back at me. It was a delight and an honour to be there, even though many a silent tear was shed, the evening was truly comforting, which gave me and our family tremendous joy. Thank you so much for the kind invitation.

This evening we come together to remember and give thanks for those we love but see no more. The words of Donna Ashworth poem are ones we use often when talking to family and friends, and are particularly poignant for today.

You don’t move on after loss, but you must move with.
You must shake hands with grief, welcome her in, for she lives with you now.
Pull her a chair at the table and offer her comfort.
She is not the monster, you first thought her to be.
She is love.
And she will walk with you now, stay with you now, if you let her.
And on the days when your anger is high, remember why she came, remember who she represents.
Grief came to you my friend because love came first.
Love came first.

This time yesterday we were in the special space of the Lady Chapel of Liverpool Cathedral as we gathered together to remember the beautiful, tiny souls gone too soon.

To see so many families come together to remember and give thanks for the lives created in love, was utterly beautiful and we are so privileged to walk this journey with you all.

It is a time to come together, share support, and remember each little life with love.
