Pumpkin looking sad on your window sill since Halloween is officially over?

Here’s a recipe to make use of your pumpkin to reduce waste ♻️ 🎃

~ CREAMY SPICED PUMPKIN SOUP ~

What you need:
1. 2 tbsp olive oil
2. 1 large onion finely diced
3. 1 large pumpkin (deseeded and chopped into chunks (remove stem)
4. 700ml water (1 vegetable stock/ chicken stock)
5. 1 pot single cream
6. 1 large dollop creamed cheese
7. Salt and pepper
8. 2 birdseye chilli’s finely diced
9. 2 garlic cloves crushed
10. 1 tsp hot paprika

To serve:
- roasted pumpkin seeds
- baguette and butter

How to make:
1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan, gently cook diced onions for 5 mins until soft.
2. Add pumpkin to the pan, then carry on cooking for approx. 10 mins, stirring occasionally until it starts to soften.
3. Add chopped garlic, chilli and hot paprika into pan and stir.
4. Pour 700ml vegetable or chicken stock (I used both 😈) into the pan and season with salt and pepper. Bring to the boil, then simmer for 10 mins until the pumpkin is very soft.
5. Pour single cream and add dollop of cream cheese into the pan, bring back to the boil, then purée with a hand blender.
6. Serve with baguette and topped with pumpkin seeds.

To make the roasted pumpkin seeds:
1. Spread flat onto baking tray
2. Add olive oil and preferred seasonings (optional) - I added garlic powder, hot paprika, aromat and black pepper.
3. Allow to cool, great to snack on, or add to soup or salads. Store in an airtight container.

CPD can feel like a minefield, especially with the dreaded potential call from HCPC to provide evidence of ongoing development.

The thing is, we are likely doing this in our everyday job roles and responsibilities. It’s making sure that we can record this to make your life easier if or when you get that call. 📞

One thing students sometimes don’t realise is the reflections of practice doesn’t stop once you’ve passed your placement. They are something that is encouraged and mandatory throughout your career as a dietitian.

For more information on CPD, take a look on BDA and HCPC.

Save for later 📌

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted food on this page…

Here’s a breakfast that I have been loving lately, Chorizo scrambled eggs! 🍳

Let me know what you think?!

If you still don’t get it, the only time you should be careful with eating is in the preparation 🔪

Florida Eats 🍴 and Drinks 🍸

Still not over this trip of a lifetime to Orlando 🇺🇸

Between park snacks and meals out the food was a success!

Swipe across to see some of our fav foods and drinks of the trip (that I remember to take capture) 🍿

One thing for sure was, we were craving vegetables by the time we returned to Liverpool 🥦😅

This is a reminder for all dietitians that we are human. We can not expect to function like robots in our working week. Ensuring our needs our met during our work shifts will make for a better work environment and ultimately support our patients better.

Despite being in a health professional role, it is okay to allow ourselves to care for our needs, both physical and mental.

This is also important for students; it can be a strenuous 12 weeks through placement, especially without a break. So taking care of yourself both at home and at work can really help . I feel that having the insight and acknowledgment of this is a great way to support your colleagues, peers and staff.

It’s been a crazy week ✨

I have turned 30, I’ve got engaged in one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to and I’m starting a new role at the Walton Centre as a Rehab Lead Dietitian covering Mat Leave on Monday! 🤯 !!

Overwhelmed with the love received

Here’s to the future! 💝

🗒️ Dietitian Essentials ✏️

Ever wonder what we’ve got with us when we’re popping on to the wards?

It’s a guarantee that I will have these items with me or in the office to help me with my day.

🧮 Calculator is a MUST - you may not know this but Dietitians spend a lot of their day making calculations.
For example: calculating % weight loss, nutritional intake and requirements, estimated weight and BMI using MUAC, estimated dry weights for oedatous patients, estimated weight for amputee patients… and the list goes on.
I would certainly be lost with out mine!

📝 Although we are moving towards a more paper lite way of working, I still love having a little notepad with me to jot down information from patients, scribble my calculations and to make to do lists (that never get completed!)

🥤 I will alwaysx have my compendium with me to ensure I choose the most appropriate ONS or EM. As well as help at times when allergens are a factor.

📏 Measuring tapes are a must to complete ulna and MUAC measurements for those patients that can not be weighed. I use this a lot on the intensive care unit or the spinal unit.

📕 The ‘Bible’ or in other words the PENG. This little pocket guide has a mountain of information and guidance to help you with requirements, assessments, care planning as well as specific areas of focus.
I recently used mine to remind me of drug-nutrient interactions as well as PN electrolyte requirements.

📁 My folder will have a lot of items I’ve already mentioned. But it will also have spare blank feeding regimes (because you never know when you need to write a new one up), reckoners such as MSJ and Powell-Tuck Equation because there’s no way I’m remembering them off by heart 😋, as well as peg leaflets, post-its and pens.

Then it comes to the most important essential items…
🍫 Snacks - the way for a dietitian to make it through the day is having access to snacks at all times! Dietitians are not picky when it comes to snacks, all is welcomed 😆

☕️ Finally the kettle (although O don’t drink tea or coffee) the kettle has a vital role in the performance and morale of dietitians 😂
Is there any other essentials that us Dietitians have or need?

When you make a post for AHP day and forget to upload 🙂😂

Here’s a week in the life of an advanced dietitian.
Each week is different, some are more clinical than others. Some weeks are meeting heavy while others is focusing on complex patients or discussions.

If you like this time of post I am happy to show other aspects of my job 🤗
