This is great news for our communities on the Wirral. The David Riddell Memorial CIO has given us a grant to help our work around su***de prevention. The CEO of the charity, David Riddell's wife says "su***de is the leading cause of death for people aged 10-34 and the biggest killer of men under the age of 50. Men aged 50-54 have the highest rate of su***de. Studies estimate that the economic cost of each su***de is £1.46 million. The personal loss can not be measured and on average 135 people are directly impacted by each su***de. The tragedy is that death by su***de is preventable; the persistent high rates of su***de are due to ignorance and stigma. With fewer than one third of people who die by su***de having accessed mental health support in the year prior to their death, it is clear to me that preventing su***de is everyone’s business."
Please get in touch with us, don't suffer in silence with any thoughts around this subject, drop us an email saying you've read this post, and you need help. su***de prevention ***deprevention

Language, Stigma, and Mental Health:
A Closer Look at why the language we use matters.

This is from a blog by the Healing Narrative, a blog started by a junior A&E doctor who wants to promote a deeper understanding between people and healthcare practitioners.

Give it a read in full, the closing passage here:
"The language we use when discussing mental health profoundly influences societal attitudes and individual experiences. By choosing our words carefully and engaging in open conversations, we can challenge stigma and create a more supportive environment for those affected, helping reshape the narrative around mental health. Let us remember that mental health is complex, and understanding it requires a compassionate approach that goes beyond labels and set definitions.
What experiences have shaped your understanding of mental health? How has the language used in relation to mental health affected you? Do any parts of this article resonate with you, and are there parts you disagree with?
This is an important and potentially contentious topic – diverse perspectives are therefore key, and there is no right or wrong answer."

Promoting understanding between people and practitioners.
